Heck yeah, Screened ruled. Currently looking at one of the stickers Rorie sent me when the end was near.

There are some secret places where those videos exist on the internet, and it's fun to watch a couple occasionally because they're really evergreen. I used to keep up on movies a lot more when the podcast was active, and used to treat Screened as one of my daily destinations. But I recall the workload being kind of insane for the small crew. So while it may have been a stressful time for the team, they really did some excellent work back then.

Anyway, I should hit play on this thing.

Ah, I rarely have much worthwhile to share in the comments; but Screened was awesome and I loved experiencing it while it happened. It's part of my memories in the same place as buying used DVDs to watch the commentary tracks over and over again. So much fun.

This was very cathartic for me. I checked screened every day since its inception, and even after you guys were gone (out of habit and morbid curiosity). Their attempts to replace you three were phenomenally terrible, offensive even. Loved hearing all these behind the scenes anecdotes. Grownups defenders are not human.

This made my day! I loved Screened and one of the best things from the Whiskey Media days was Rorie's breakdown of Mulholland Drive. Thank you all for all of your hard work from those days. The site is gone, but you brought a lot of joy and good memories to a lot of people!

Awesome, I loved Screened and still love these guys! I won a sweet Gladiator theatrical poster in some contest they ran. Can’t believe it’s been 10 years since the Whiskey Media days. I really enjoyed this retrospective.

My fondest memories of Screend is first getting a signed copy (signed by @alex and @rorie ) of Eyeborgs and making some of the banners that were used for their live stream show.

thanks so much to @alex and @rorie (and omg joey!) for getting together to do this- it's earnestly heartwarming to see the band back together, if only for a fleeting retrospective.

i first started showing up around these parts in late 2011, so though my time with screened was brief it was nonetheless significant. it's not hard to sense some of the frustration that surrounds the untimely demise of the site- but you folks should take some solace in knowing the work and energy you contributed was an absolutely inseparable piece of that (pardon my phrasing) 'whiskey media magic.' it'll undoubtedly make you blush, but IMHO the general whiskey editorial voice and approach to video was the velvet underground of the contemporary web.

i remember the first time i tuned into a happy hour and saw yall on the couch rapping with ryan about movies- and between screened, tested, and giant bomb- it's as if i had found a media group tailor made for my humor and interests. i'm thankful that rorie and alex have found new professional life here, and i still check in on joey via his work with adam.

it would be neat to have a vehicle for rorie and alex to spit game about movies from time to time- but i digress. i'm almost certain i wouldn't still be hanging out on GB were it not for the magnetic fun of those early days, so here's to screened!

I really loved Screened. I wrote a review for some helicopter documentary for kids because I won it in a contest from Rorie.

I still remember a time when I watched Ip Man and I stayed up till 4am writing an essay about the film and sharing that with the community. What an amazing time, it was great to hear y'all reminisce about it!

I freelanced Screened for three years or so, firstly with Alex and Rorie and then with BermanBraun when it bought the site. You guys were always lovely, generous with your time, and gave me a platform and good pay for writing I'm now totally embarrassed by when I look back at it 😂 But if it weren't for that I wouldn't have improved and learned, so thanks for giving me the chance to cut my teeth.

I have very fond memories from Screened and was bummed that it never took off in popularity. For a team that small you created a lot of nicely produced content, but now I realize that's because you worked yourselves to the bones and that will never last too long.

I wonder if Screened would've survived better if it was launched some years later when longer form Youtube reviews (like Half in the Bag), more relaxed productions like streaming, more analytical video essays (like Nerdwriter, Folding Ideas), became more popular.

I'm glad Alex and Matt are still around and, seemingly, have much better working conditions today. (Although, trucking from Prague to St Petersburg is a long drive.)

I remember doing a big wiki entry on Screened for The Doctor which I was particularly proud of, and I was always kind of bummed when the site went down and it got lost. Unfortunately, I don't have the original URL, so I can't plug it into the Wayback machine to see if I can find it that way.

IMO Screened made best use of the old CMS for long-form features and reviews before Polygon and Vice came around but can't remember what they were about. All I know is Alex is still awesome at writing when he gets the chance. Giant Bomb has always been primarily about video/audio than reviews (to an escalating degree) for better or worse.

Regarding tech: I can certainly recognize that the tech was probably awesome at the time but you might only speculate if it could compete with Wordpress today. Hindsight 20:20 but it seems like the web was hurtling towards microblogging like Twitter and Tumblr or plugin-able Wordpress and here we are today in this semi hell-hole. I hope Tested is still powered by some of that tech because otherwise I imagine Dave could be similarly frustrated by having all that work dumped offline even if it is more common in tech than media.

Anyways thanks for making Whiskey Media awesome and thanks Rorie for making Fallout New Vegas :P (I didn't play much Alpha Protocol) :)

I miss this site!!! I put soooo much into the wiki that's probably only visible in the internet archive these days :(. it's interesting to think that netflix streaming was just getting off the ground around the time the site was going on. I was still getting DVDs from them in 2010-2011. I love movies and TV and miss terribly having a place run by good folks like these to review/discuss them
