That Dr. Fetus challenge was some of the most fun I've had watching him play this game. It's the closest I've gotten to just up and buying this myself in lieu of watching him play it. I can't wait to see him try it again tomorrow.

Have to remember to bomb out of bad rooms in the Womb, especially when you know where you're going and you're just trying to get through rooms to the boss. Can't blow up the boss door, so double Envy still would have been bad, but the room you lost your 1up in you probably could have gotten out with a couple hearts lost, as well as the Gurdy rooms that were bad.

Dodging for the ~5-7 seconds it takes to plant a bomb is a lot easier than dodging for a minute to kill everything. Barring special circumstances, at best you'll get a heart or two back, so if you think you'll take more than a couple shots it's almost never worth it to kill things.

@shagge: Yeah, that room was a nightmare. Best he could do was maybe clear out rocks to give more room to dodge, but even then with brimstone that room would have sucked.

Yeah it's important to know that you can bomb your way out of rooms with enemies still in them.

And @patrickklepek, you can also bomb any of the walls in the secret rooms as long as there's an adjacent room. This means you can bomb into treasure rooms or shops from secret rooms if you're low on keys.

Hey Patrick. You should try Gun Godz from Vlambeer on "worth playing". Vlambeer are the Dutch guys who made ridiculous fishing, super crate box, Serious Sam: the random encounter and the soon to be released Luftrausers. You can download it here: http://vlambeer.com/3/

You should pick up the game! It's a blast to play, though you have missed out on a little bit of the learning process by seeing Patrick do so much of the fundamentals. Still worth it, especially at its super low price.

I'm mostly just holding off because my backlog is enormous and unlike Spelunky and Risk of Rain, I didn't have them already waiting to jump on when Patrick did.

Aw, that run was going well until you picked up Brimstone. By the way, you actually unlocked the Dr. Fetus item when you beat the game in yesterday's run, so you can expect to see that show up every now and then in regular playthroughs. Picking that challenge just let you see it a lot sooner! I might have to try that challenge out soon. Looks like a bit of a pain without the item rooms, but I'm sure it's doable. I'm not sure what item unlocks for finishing the challenge.

Be aware that some of the challenges end with Mom in the Depths. I know for a fact that the first challenge works that way.

Looks like getting Brimstone + homing shots will actually be useful in The Binding of Isaac Rebirth.

Just look at that crazy bending brimstone laser thingie!

Brimstone is pretty great...but not when your damage is low and you have no item rooms. :(

I've been playing BoI on my shitty laptop late at night. The game runs like trash, especially when there are a lot of enemies on screen, but I'm having fun. Getting Skatole and ignoring flies is a lot of fun.

I did end up playing with a controller, though. I've got a wrist/hand injury that using a keyboard tends to aggravate. It's still pretty good. Shoot/move with the face buttons, L1 bomb, R1 item, L3 spacebar.

Yeah, the performance issues of the game is part of why I'm looking forward to Rebirth. When Wrath of the Lamb came out, I was using a different computer and the game just didn't run as well anymore. I think part of the reason I'm enjoying it is that my newer PC can handle things a bit better...although I still get a lot of slowdown.

I can't really complain too much, though, considering the game was thrown together in 3 months. Also, the slowdown has actually worked in my favor more than a few times, allowing me to see enemy tells before an attack much earlier.

Patrick,

When you see the Nail your brain should think: Book of Revelations that doesn't force me to fight Harbingers (which only drop meat cubes) and that happens to make me stronger for one room.

99% of the time the correct way to use it is to activate it every time it recharges unless you know you are close to the final boss. The main benefit is the soul heart it provides. These are crucial for the final battle which you need a lot of health for. I lose a soul heart every time you pass one up.

Loving the Patrick-Plays features.

The sacrificial room will always give you a chest if youre at half a heart. So if you can get half a damage somewhere on the stage you can guarantee your item in a situation like yours in this run :).

Brimstone is quite powerful, if you have good damage and fire rate (tears stat). The problem is, your damage was quite low because it was using your basic starting damage. Dr. Fetus is much better though, you're right on that.
