Honestly I didn't even catch it either, I thought it was an odd prompt, but didn't put it together that they're fired, and I've played through both recent xcom's twice.

In the gang's defense, who has ever purposely used that button in that menu? I want to understand the design choice that led someone to think that is a good place to include this option. It should be out of the way difficult to go out and permanently fire someone.

For future missions, you want to press "clear unit" in order to remove a character from your current squad going into a mission. "Dismiss Soldier", the option you chose, removed them from your game permanently. Which, I'm sad to say, you were warned about in big, red letters. Donna Tello and Gita Jackson deserved better than this.

Also, just a quick heads-up, building power does not cost power. You were looking at the laboratory the entire time. But you only lost a few days there, so no biggie. You had access to a far better reactor, the elerium reactor, though.

I love this series more than any other content currently being produced by Giant Bomb, but I really wish Dan would take the time to read. He would be better at this game, and much less ignorant, in general.

That was the best intro, yet!! Love how much Alex got into character for that one.

This started off pretty badly (dismissing Donna Tello) but gotta say for all the tension-filled moments in between, Dan pulled it off! congrats guys!

For anyone complaining about Dan dismissing Donna and Gita (which I agree was a boneheaded moment), consider that the Assault the Alien Base mission is extremely difficult and can be generally counted on to take at least two squadmates lives in the bargain. So as far as I'm concerned it was a wash anyway. As Vinny said, his methods are unconventional, but he gets results.

On the other hand, cancelling and reordering that satellite uplink, wasting six days' construction and 100 simoleans, now that was just plain stupid.

5 min in. Is Dan and Vinny trying to kill me? Please take your GOD damn time reading, dont push cause we already know this series is either going to take several more episodes or it ends on the next 3. Scrapping the Satelitte uplink just broke me so much I had to stop the video and write this.....

edit: just got to the 12min mark. Im guessing Abby is gonna be pissed her girl isnt there anymore

edit 2: (during mission): I have never seen a shotgun hitting its target from the other side of the ship. Dan has to be the luckiest person, he hits with 40~60 % shots. Its unbeleivable, now I know why in the beastcast, Vinny said this was a very ryckert mission

I can't. I skipped the last few episodes to cool off, but this is just too much, I can't watch this series anymore. This isn't like KSP where a large number of things aren't on the screen or are even in the game, and experimentation is part of the fun. This is ignoring or missing things that are literally on the screen.

It´s funny, because I was just eyeing the Dismiss option as they were going over the soldiers, pondering how easy it could be to accidentally remove one from play if you weren´t paying attention, when it happened.

This is still my favorite show on Giant Bomb right now. It´s a shame that Dan´s hasty pace caused some unnecessary losses, especially as the rest of the mission miraculously turned out so well.

I see that Dirty Dan Ryckert troll mode is back in full effect. As people have mentioned, please don't blame Abby for whatever happens next episode, you have to trace the problems back to their roots

Some truly amazing decision making goes on in this episode. Why not scrap a few more of their buildings though, surely having a surplus of inefficiently produced power is the best way to defeat the aliens.

Shout out to Dan for figuring out how to get soldiers killed before even launching the mission.

As someone who was upset with That Other Episode, this is nothing like that, IMO.

Absolutely everything that happened in this episode is inconceivable.

Look, I know we're blasting Dan for cancelling construction and firing promoted soldiers for no reason, but also Vinny made the cardinal mistake of assuming Dan had any idea what he was doing. Everyone present was culpable in this base tragedy.

I...what...how? This should not have worked at all. Worth it to watch people in these comments get angry. :D

Man, that could have gone real nasty there if those last couple of turns didn't go well. Glad Dan pulled off that mission with no causalities. But man, destroying the satellite relay, building two crappy power generators, rebuilding the satellite relay, and dismissing two soldiers within the first ten minutes. That was a lot to take in.

Dan...
