I have watched the voiced ending, it was alright, nothing great, but at least the story sort of make sense now.

Guess I'm watching more Quiet Man.

So I just watched a few minutes of the “Answered” DLC (gonna wait for the inevitable Giant Bomb stream to see the rest) and it seems...so much worse. Like, exponentially worse.

I mean, this is not especially "great", but doesn't seem THAT bad? I kinda think there's something nice looking about the graphics. It's not like it's Birdemic or something.

when they spent millions of dollars of development and get this. It kinda is. This isn't a one-person indie who just learned how to code.

I mean yeah I guess they did need to see it. Like, when it comes to Flat Out Worst Game at Game of the Year, it's important that everyone saw this trainwreck.

Ditching Hitman in favor of this was a stroke of genius.

As a child of deaf parents, I think I'm genuinely offended by this game.

@rigas: SE acknowledges the game is of a smaller scope. I don't have the exact quote, but they definitely do compare it to indies. This isn't some massive budget tentpole release for Square, and they never touted it as such

some of the footage is beautifully shot, but hoo boy did they have nothing else.

I'm with Jeff and more or less ambivalent about the game. Getting them to run this one was like hyping up The Room and not getting much of a reaction out of the people in the end.

@lyndbako: Over an hour of this three hour game is cut scenes that are just dialog with no sound.

I beaten this game. It is absolutely the worst game I’ve played in 10 years.

Square-Enix were happy to fund this piece of shit but not IOI's next Hitman? That's what I don't get.

It's not Life of Black Tiger or anything but it's definitely up there in contention for Hottest Mess 2018.

I'm sad they stopped playing before seeing any of the wild shit in this game.

There's a fine line somewhere between being willing to pay to satisfy my curiosity, and not wanting to "reward" the people who made and published this with my dollars. It's like people who "ironically" go the theaters to watch terrible movies and then wonder how the studios keep making more of them. (Answer: they got paaaaaid)

Great video to fall asleep to if Jeff didn't get upset and start yelling 3/4 of the way through.

Guess the audio is already and it was as expected. A part of me wished the audio was 100% the characters reading the design doc of the entire game verbatim along with back and forth memo communications of between devs wondering if X or Y was a good idea.

That or the character dialogue was just spoken form reading of Wu Tang lyrics.

@lyndbako: In risk of pointing out the semantically obvious, of course its not the worst game, you can pick any random steam or xblig (may it rest in piece) trash for that. The point is that this is the worst trainwreck of bad decisions in the context of actual-publisher-with-a-budget-and-e3-presence.

And even in the worst case it's still just a bad 15 buck videogame, which, if you're an adult is really extremely mild as far as bad things go

What is an American deaf kid his age doing without a Cochlear implant?

He's not deaf. Or at least from the "sound" playthru he might be deaf but he can consistently read lips and reply to people by speaking without any trouble. Jeff is right that this feels like some bad thing (like the shittiest student film) they took away the sound from at the latter stages to give it "something" ...ugh.

Is the protagonist a male or a female? I can't tell.

I really like what this game is trying to do and think that the lack of real sound, use of kinda-underwater-ambient effects and overlays are all really cool. A shame that the developers chose to "tell" the story in the way that they did when there are obvious ways to actually tell the story, like using subtitles and only omitting sound when the protagonist is in the scene. Also, there's the part where the game looks bad. I would really like to see these ideas attached to a better game, but that will never happen.

East really needs to do a Less Quiet Man Playdate with the voice track.

@thoseposers: I'm with you. Mostly just uninteresting and certainly not worth the hyperbole of everyone shrieking about how ridiculous it is. Also, the East crew constantly calling it racist is a bit much. It's a unique idea executed poorly, but hardly worth the attention it's getting.

Man I realize I sat through this game AGAIN.

I very badly want to know what happened in production.

@chilo:The aftershow this week with Jeff and Ben included Jeff reading a statement off of twitter by the developer or writer or..the man responsible for this mess, along with a caller who (at least claimed) to live/work in an area close to the studio that put it out.

From what Jeff read, it feels like what we have in an insane person who is full of himself and utterly incompetent got to make a game, and from what the people who helped produce it said it was very much a "Yes this guy is as up hiss on butt as that tweet described".

After that, I pretty much concluded what we have here is a "The Room" situation, but a director who is convinced he made a masterpiece/deep artistic creation. When instead its a train-wreck on every level and everyone but him can see it. Happens all the time in movies, honestly (just go watch Red Letter Media's best of the worst series for dozens of examples). Its just rare in video-games since they typically cost a lot more money to make.

The true insanity of this game isn't the bad controls or bad graphics, lots of games have those. It's the maybe-incest and the non-explained supernatural stuff that makes this truly special.
