Ooh! Random thought I had while watching. You know what could be a cool Run in honor of Mr. Vincent Vania?

Castlevania: Harmony of Despair.

Co-op 'natch. All stages. Some of those DLC levels get really hard.

Brought to you by Domino's: the #1 New York slice

But to add to the BBQ places, GBeast in midtown isn't too far from Blue Smoke which is pretty good

I 100% believe that Dan would honor the sandwich bet(or any bet). If he didn't, nobody would ever honor his word on bets again. There's that and the fact that going back on bets is a pretty shitty thing to do.

Dan, please, you're from Kansas City. Burnt ends are not "the ends... of ribs." They're double-smoked chunks of brisket.

Dan is like the guy who berates you to change his oil in your home garage in exchange "for a six pack a beer," four bottles of which he'll drink as you discover his car is leaking oil all over the floor of your garage.

@massiveduck: Fair. But, also being a midwesterner, there's no chance I'd ever describe a hot dog having been cooked on a grill as having been "barbecued," as Vinny did. The difference in regional usage of the terms may have contributed to that particular confusion.

Vinny said "barbecue" when he meant "grill" and started off the whole mess. He said he "got out his barbecue" which confused Dan.

Where I come from, Barbecuing something means cooking on low heat for a long time.

re: F.C.U.K.

I went to a local mall the week it reopened after being completely overhauled in renovations. One of the new stores there was French Connection UK, and they had a big corner shop with an all glass wall along one side. On the interior wall right where it ran up against that glass wall, in plain site from across the mall, "FCUK" was written vertically from the ceiling all the way to the floor. The letters were at least a few feet wide each.

I went back to that mall a little later in the month and the letters were gone. Instead they had small nicely printed stickers that said "FCUK censorship" here and there along the glass wall. I imagine those didn't last long either, but I didn't go back soon enough to really know.

Oh boy. The south Virginia and Carolinas pedants are going to have a field day with the barbecue talk. Hey! Pedants! It doesn't matter! I promise. It all tastes good. Meat on a grill is good stuff. Let's just leave it at that.

I'm really curious what Vinny thinks he knows about Nobunaga's Ambition.

It's a historical grand strategy game series, so I'm pretty sure that no Contra boss is much like anything from it.

Harmony of Despair is fun (and the loading screen music is totally bad-ass), but demonstrating co-op on a game where both players can be bopping around on opposite sides of the level, doing completely unrelated things while the game is zoomed out so that everything is tiny, pixel-ly splotches and no one can see anything would probably not make for the best viewing.

I'm thinking he got his wires crossed and was actually thinking of another game, possibly Zombie Nation for the NES in which you control a dead samurai's disembodied head.

"No-bunga."

Vinny mispronounced "Nobunaga" the same way I did when I was really young. I think I saw an NES version of Nobunaga's Ambition at a rental store, and never really looked closely at the spelling.

I guess in America they don't have cookers/ovens with built in grills? In the UK the difference between grilling and BBQ is so clear, the BBQ definition discussion was driving me crazy!

Grilling = Fire from above

BBQ = Fire from below

EDIT: Also, you don't put BBQ sauce on BBQ meat.

@dasakamov: Fair. It can hard to see even solo. You could house rules it so that they need to stick together... but also house rules are super lame.

I guess I just miss Vinnivania. Also HoD is woefully undervalued.

Fire from above: Broiling

Fire from below: Grilling.

BBQ ain't grilling. BBQ is cooking via low, indirect heat and smoke, usually over a long period of time. Though you can BBQ something and then finish it on the grill (not uncommon with ribs).

Cooking outside with a grill is often colloquially referred to as BBQing, but this is a bastardization, and Vinny's discussion of this drove me a little nuts.

As far as sauce goes, different schools of BBQ have different norms. In Carolina you might add some tart, vinegar-based sauce. In Kansas City, which is what Dan is accustomed to, you would eat it with a thick, tomato-based sauce. Tennessee has both dry and wet styles, etc.

I was on a basketball team when I was 10 and only made two shots the entire year. Not because I couldn't shoot, I was really good at shooting, just my asshole teammates never passed me the ball.

Yep. Depending on which part of the US or Canada you live, you may refer to the cooking device as either a barbecue or a grill. When I think 'grill' I associate that with a diner style solid metal grill you use to cook eggs and hashbrowns and stuff without a pan. 'Barbecue' being the propane or charcoal outdoor cooking device. Then there's the genre of food loosely referred to as BBQ, which may or may not actually be cooked on a barbecue as such. I guess a smoker is a type of barbecue.

The videos of playing Contra Hard Corps is what got me to sign up for premium. This game is so impressive for a 16-bit system so many paths, bosses and amazing music.
