Unfinished: EX: Golem (PlayStation VR) 03/17/2016

Jaime, Jared, and Marty from Highwire Games invite us under their bed to get grossed out by bugs and smash golems with swords.

Sometimes we look at a game before it's done. When that's the case? Well... it must be Unfinished.

Everything about the opening shot makes it look like an address by a rebel in a dystopian future video.

EDIT: And apparently Martin O'Donnell's brother works at Highwire?

RE-EDIT: No, that really is Marty O'Donnell.

Every time I see a VR video the people in it look super excited and I just think... everything about this looks kind of dumb.

For some reason, seeing 2/3 of the devs wearing glasses, I've begun to wonder how well these vr devices will accommodate people with glasses.

More on topic, this is a pretty cool video, and it's nice to see this stuff in action. Also, it sounds like a mess to get the capture gear set up.

Yesterday I was wondering what a VR quicklook would look like. I know they have done some VR footage before, especially from patrick, but I don't think there's been one in quicklook form. (I'm sure someone will call me out.) We are now in the future lads.

Now we will need VR versions of quicklooks (literally two screen output) when everyone has a VR headset. The FUTURE!

Clear advantage for the PSVR and perhaps the Rift over the Vive, ability to add Googly Eyes (I'm assuming the eyes would cover up some of the Vive's receptors).

Need to remove that red light that was shining on Jeff's face stat, it was very distracting.

@brackstone: The screen itself is only a few inches from your eyes I believe, so as long as they can see something clearly from that distance, people with glasses (including me) should be fine without them while wearing the headset. Not speaking from experience.

Being a Gear VR owner, I can honestly say I'm very excited to see what "bigger" games feel like in VR. But they're right, there's no way that this would demo well without actually trying it.

Also, I have strong VR legs, I hope that some developers take off the training wheels and let you move around freely and quickly.

It's pretty funny how in the video they say the combat is extremely early and the resolution is lower on social screen, yet people are still shocked when the combat looks clunky and early and the resolution we see is low. Duders, I'm just glad we got to see SOMETHING and I'll trust Brad's experience which he seemed positive about.

Looks like a a bad wii game. I am sure the VR adds a lot but this doesn't give me a lot of hope that this is how we will play games in the future. I guess the good thing is it can only go up from here.

PS Move seemed to track terribly back when they came out, it doesnt seem like that was magically fixed on PS4.

Early days for VR... The game itself looks like an old Oculus demo; walk around these single-room environments. Graphically it looks like a PS3 game, which is to be expected from a console that already struggles to do current-gen at 2D 1080p 60 Hz. The swordfighting segment has some very jittery tracking, showing that the Playstation Move wasn't built for VR.

PC-VR is a known quantity with years of dev kits behind it, but I wonder how Sony's PSVR will perform & be received.

I'm very interested to know if games are going to work on all 3 VR sets, if so i wonder if PSVR will become a sort of lead platform for VR development, considering the PS4 install base and PSVR being to most affordable to the general public along with Sonys brand recognition. It seems like the safer bet for smaller devs. then again I'm a no game developer and have no idea how these things work.

@eosino: PS Move works in a total darkness, so I don't think so.

PS Move seemed to track terribly back when they came out, it doesnt seem like that was magically fixed on PS4.

They always worked perfectly for me. That shaky movement was present in GB coverage of Move before. I don't know why that is. I'm getting no jitter even in a pointer mode.
