@voidburger is right. Bring back intermissions. Some of us have small bladders and movies are too long.

I love the crazy 20+ minutes discussion at the beginning.

I can only do films festivals and artsy cinemas, I feel anywhere else there's tons of shitbags looking at their phone and commenting the film all the time. I'm there to watch the movie and I want silence darnit, but a big screen is necessary for the boring ass europeans-talking-about-their-emotions-shit that I love, but it's too easy to get distracted at home by everything happening around me.

Blockbusters movies I can wait to see at home, they're easy to be attentive to because they're loud and I don't get the "see this on the big screen" crowd for blockbusters, like the special effects look good on my TV too.

There must be better games out there.

I refuse to believe the most entertainment you get out of a game is one person narrating their every action and laughing at their own jokes.

The reason I go see movies at the theater is because I know that the "no phones" rules are the only way I'll actually watch a movie and pay attention to it. I'm on Jeff's side of "if I'm here to watch a movie I'm here to watch a fucking movie, not some dipshit's performance" but otherwise I can't agree with his stance on just watching movies at home instead.

Boy, that was sure a series of takes from Jeff G at the beginning. Jason telling him he didn’t have to watch the scary game was low-key hilarious, though.

I really enjoyed my time with Evil Dead: The Game today. I'm sad that it seemed like it didn't click with Jason.

I would say that the Single Player Missions are more a "Challenege mode" and are extremely difficult, and probably a poor introduction to the game. The actual multiplayer game is great, though.

Totally with Jeff.. If I am paying 20 dollars to see a movie, sit down and shut up and watch.. I enjoy people laughing and the gasps and such but.. there is a line that should not be crossed in theatres. With that said... I enjoy going to a theatre and the whole movie going experience even though I haven't been in like two years or whatever at this point.

anime movies in theatres are not for humans, they're for anime fans. None of the normal movie theatre rules apply. We all know we're sub-human going in.

Man, that movie conversation in the beginning. You certainly have to know what you're getting yourself into and what your tolerances are when you decide to go to a theatre.

I'm kind of in the middle, I guess? Yes, we're here to watch the movie, so let's pay attention, be quiet, and watch the movie. HOWEVER, it is also extremely fun to have a "shared experience" with like-minded people. Opening night Infinity War with a theatre full of comic fans was great. Granted, the most out of the ordinary theatre behavior displayed was a roar of applause whenever a new character entered the fray. Resurrection F and Super Broly in theatres full of hyped-up Dragon Ball nutjobs were amazing experiences. I really haven't wound up in any bad audiences. Maybe some light talking or a phone screen on briefly? It sucks but isn't the end of the world.

I guess that the distinction would be whether people are reacting/responding to something from the film that is attempting to evoke a response or actively disrupting it at random.

Going to the cinema seems nice as an experience on paper and there’s some good more old school ones here, but all the films i’ve been to in the last few years i’ve just kinda left with a headache because they‘re so long and the sound system is tweaked so harsh. Dealing with other people in an enclosed dark space with limited leg room is usually a mostly bad experience.

So yeah ok fuck modern movie-going, even before talking about wacky audience participation/panto stuff lol.

Even in 2018 (when I last entered a movie theater, and even by then it was at MOST once a year - fuck movie theaters, Jeff is right) they had intermissions for long movies here in Austria. I don't remember which one it was then but e.g. all three LotR movies had them, and so did Inglourious Basterds.

I had to wait MONTHS to figure out what was said during the final fight in the Super Broly movie because it was 1 night only and people were yelling so loud that you couldnt hear the movie. so i fucking HATE that stuff. I agree with Jeff. being excited about something is one thing but trying to out drama the movie projector is just obnoxious....

Shocked GerstTakes didn't play Iconoclasts this ep. It's pretty painful to watch when opinions are doggedly presented as axioms. Real "Me vs the world, baby!" energy going on here. Slowly backing away from this.

In defense of movie theaters: I thought I was over them. However, my wife and I moved to a town with an art house theater, and it solved all my problems with movie theaters: The theaters are small, everyone is quiet and stays off their phones, they show movies I actually want to see, the sound is balanced and doesn't blow out your eardrums, they serve beer, and because we're members we get free popcorn. It's just been a ridiculously good experience - we've been going once a week.

I still love going to the movies. Sitting in that theater with no distractions and really getting absorbed in something, seeing the trailers, getting the popcorn, not having control, and just being there for the whole experience, I love it. I go at least once a week, I will go until it all goes belly up.

Going to the movies is one of the few things I do in my small town, so I'm all for it. Of course the fact that it's a small town theatre not located in the US probably has spared me from some of the horror stories I've read online. At worst there has just been people talking loudly at parts or looking at their phones, which still sucks, but doesn't run it for me.

Movies also don't come available over here digitally within a month like they almost seem to do in the US, which is another good reason for me to go watch them in a theatre as soon as I can if I'm really interested.

@ultimaxe: My rule even before the Pandemic was not to go to chains anymore. Small historic theaters are absolutely awesome, in aesthetic and also to work in (I volunteered at one for a few years.) Giant chain theaters, however, are awful on every level. Too crowded, too expensive, unhappy customers, unhappy employees.

Hey @jeff if you want to play Max Payne, you'll need this super simple fan patch (I don't recommend installing the AI upscaled textures because they make the game take long time to load): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1633394421

Max Payne absolutely holds up.

It's sad that Bruce Campbell never made the A-List cut back in the day. Handsome, charismatic and easy to work with. People have mentioned some of his good stuff, but you rarely see Brisco County Jr. as well.

As for the theater talk, I'm one of both minds. There's nothing like seeing a premiere with a crowd that's hype. I'll never forget my midnight viewings of the LOTR trilogy. That said, a lot of theaters now are dingy, people are on their cell phones and I'd rather be home watching it.
