Maybe this game is how Simon tells the story to his kids, which is why it's different and easier, he's trying to impress them.

Glad I was not the only one who was like wait where is part two. I would like to think this was some super secret code thing ... but naaa ... the video people are on vacation so only the personalities are left. Thus we get little screw ups like this and the afore mentioned video hiccups.

And wow did this game get harder quickly good to see the real Castlevania is back!

It shouldn't be. There's at least Dracula X/Rondo of Blood and Bloodlines left. Both (or all 3?) great games.

Today's episode: Wow, I can't believe how well Vinny played in the second half of this episode. I totally expected the Treasury to be a 2 hour showstopper, minimum, but he got that boss first try.

As for other non-metroidvania Castlevanias, SNES Dracula X is an super terrible rip-off of Rondo of Blood, not worth playing at all, especially now that there are easy ways to play Rondo of Blood, 'cause that game is completely amazing. Bloodlines has a lot of super rad stuff in it but also has a lot of garbage, and IIRC does not have infinite continues (?), so might not work well here. Then there's Castlevania Chronicles which is about as good as 4, and Adventure Rebirth for wiiware which was so-so. And that's pretty much it for 'classicvania'. Besides original gameboy stuff.

Giant Bomb East hates me recently. I watch these videos via Roku and the last Life is Strange still doesn't work now they let me watch the first hour of this just for it to die. Whatever I did to deserve this Vinny, I'm sorry.

@epyo: Nope, Dracula X is fine. It's worse than Rondo, but it's still a good Castlevania. People like to overreact to that game.

Really great episode guys! I loved the commentary and the expressions on Alex's face were hilarious. And of course, Vinny just tearing through that game like a boss.

Making the choose your own adventure into a one shot thing and a longer quick look and only an advertisement for the games you play would make me completely loose interest in it. IF we vote for a game to continue the game should continue. Do not listen to the minority who want to rig the vote LET THE PEOPLE RULE!

@snaggmouth: no, the next game would be Castlevania Chronicles, which is a port of 1993's Akumajō Dracula. Then it will be Rondo, then Bloodlines, and then Symphony of the Night.

I hope they get around to doing Rondo of Blood on the PCE. It might not have been released in the US until much later, but it's definitely worth playing through. I mean, if you want a great rendition of barkerville, it doesn't get any better than the one in Rondo of Blood. Plus, it's the prequel to Symphony of the Night! We need to follow the continuity of this rich Castlevania lore. :p

Hey Austin- FF Tactics have always had that busted magic bug, even on PS1. It's not easy to fix apparently.

And, if you have not already, play Let Us Cling Together on PSP (also a re-release with a great translation), it's about 2 times better in terms of both story and gameplay. (personal opinion)

@snaggmouth: I hope they do rondo of blood for the PC Engine CD as it takes place directly before symphony of the night. and I hope the dont play the snes version Dracula X as that's pretty bad and dosnt have a sweet German anime FMV opening

@austin_walker I was hoping someone would mention Kid Dracula someday :D Such a dope game :D Oh and with regards to when you should play it, I say you play it at the end since the game takes place over 1000 years after the events of Castlevania :D

Just chiming in with another "HD Video is busted in both player and Download" comment. Other versions seem to be fine though.

Part two was amazing, sorry most of you guys seemed to have missed it.

Another Roku watcher here (in bed at least) hoping this can be fixed.

Out of curiosity, do you notice videos in the Roku app tend to be zoomed in a little too much? A tiny amount of the border is always cut off for me. It usually doesn't matter unless a game has information too close to the edges though.

One of the major problems with SCV4 is that the whip upgrades unbalance the game. You don't focus as much on subweapons and your better whip controls means the larger whip just becomes god mode. There's pro action replay codes to disable whip upgrades, and it actually makes the game much more interesting because you have to get closer to enemies, time your hits, and you need more hits to get through bosses, so you have to learn their patterns instead of brute forcing them. It's a much more enjoyable version of the game I feel. (Plus the regular whip has slightly better sound effects and graphics than the chain)

Slowdown is also officially fixed on iOS, although I hear complaints about UI and it's not optimized for widescreen.

Why SE doesn't retroactively fix the PSP version is beyond me but it's great that a patch exists, it wasn't up when I was looking to play WotL years ago.

I'm thinking it's likely that Vinny will beat this game in the next episode, although he could very well get hung up on Stage B-2. That level is probably the biggest pain in the ass, and if there's input lag, it might even be impossible. Those falling steps are no joke.

Dracula, on the other hand, is a joke in this game. Not as easy as in Castlevania II, of course, but he shouldn't give Vinny much trouble. The atmosphere as you make the walk from the Grim Reaper room to Dracula's lair is fantastic.

Me and Alex usually seem to see eye to eye with music judging by the band shirts he wears... but the Cancer Bats, Alex? The Cancer Bats?

Oh and Super Castlevania IV is pretty rad.
