@wagrid: The fact that all these references belong to the Tolkien Estate is exactly why I'm surprised that they haven't been sued (although, the estate really could sue for references to any Tolkien material that isn't a direct product of the film licenses, even if it's Lord of the Rings). As long as Christopher is still alive, the estate is *extremely* protective.

Castlevania really goes deep into D&D and fantasy territory in this game. Pretty sure Koji Igarashi played him some Ravenloft at some point.

@gregalor: Yeah? I must admit, as much as I love Tolkien's work, I don't know much about the stances of the Tolkien Estate beyond Christopher's criticisms of the LoTR movies (which I think are largely on point, even though I like them in and of themselves).

The fact that this has been such a breeze due to having amazing gear so early has weirdly put me off of watching this. Receiving 1 hit point of damage just mitigates any level of challenge and I feel like this game (and the ones that followed) were all about that sense of discovery. Vinny previously had to use skill to beat the games now he's just tanking his way through and having chat take over.

I don't know about Iga, but whoever did the boxart for Simon's Quest sure did.

edit: "WHY DON'T I PRESS IT AND SEEEEE." is still in my head, 20 years later.

Reminder: I would still love Vinny to do a weird detour into playing Master of Darkness on the Master System (although I fear he's gone past this style of Castlevania game with SotN and it won't play* as well).

*By play, I mean as a goof; it certainly isn't the best playing game.

I wear khakis and polo shirts to work. People think I'm weird because I wear one of two zip up / turtleneck sweater jacket things over top of it every single day. But it's for the same reason Alex has. ITS SO FUCKING COLD IN MY OFFICE. OMG. I HATE IT. There's no way to turn it off and it makes me SO COLD. ARGH D:

@vucubcaquix: I tried playing this on roku as well...super laggy. I've been having trouble with a couple of the videos of late. I have a roku 3 for reference

Venus Weed gave me a funny feeling when I was a kid.

I'd watch Alex playing through the old Megaman games.

@timefugitive: yeah, same here. I watch almost exclusively on my roku 3 so when that locks up, I almost never get back to a video...

I finally got a premium sub this year, and what I find is that the crew is not particularly good at games (except Jeff), and has goldfish brain for the most part. So seeing them play a game with so much and basically ignoring 90% of it can be quite frustrating to watch.

Like... even though I've beaten this game over 50x, I was NEVER so thoughtless, incompetent, afraid, slow, etc.... it's literally just Super Metroid with melee weapons. And if you can't play Super Metroid with some level of competence as a professional, paid video game guy, it grates.
