If anyone wants this sort of thing without having to splash out for VR, I'd recommend looking into Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator.

This is f'n awesome, stuff like this is why i keep coming back to the bomb.

There's enormous potential here for friends to get together and: A) subvert every Star Trek paradigm, or B) grab themselves a slice of Federation immortality as Starfleet heroes. Sadly, this incarnation doesn't seem to have the tools to do either. One important design element that makes Bridge Crew work is the tying of the player to a control station. It's a great piece of sleight-of-hand that eliminates the awkwardness of current VR locomotion. Maybe the designers watched a lot of Supermarionation shows like Thunderbirds, where the marionettes were filmed seated or standing in place as much as possible to avoid their immersion-breaking walking movement. In spite of Bridge Crew's shortcomings, there were some compelling moments on display. Experiences like this could be the salvation of this generation of VR hardware.

Is there a human ship vs human ship mode?

I'll admit part of me was hoping they'd go with the borderline indecipherable TOS candy button style helm, but I'll take what I can get, this was great.

@howlingtechie: Oh wow, I was thinking the Artemis Bridge Simulator people abandoned that and made this once VR was (re)invented and they secured the Star Trek license somehow. Are they two different development teams?

This was probably a nightmare to set up. Props to Jason! And of course Will, for providing the extra gear and useful tips.

My only suggestion, should this madness ever happen again, would be to have the views from the splitscreen match the player positions on the bridge.

I can't imagine what would have happened if they did try the old school Enterprise missions with that crazy colored button control scheme.

I would definitely watch more of you all playing this. Thanks Will for helping to make it happen. Wish I knew more people with headsets to play this.

Also, I super want to play this, but at a deep discount. Fan-service is cheap, but this game looks like it needs way more of it to be what I want it to be. If I'm going to live out my Star Trek daydreams in VR, I want to go whole hog. Actual characters, my choice of Enterprise, away team missions, ship invasions, maybe even diplomacy options.

It'd be a hell of an undertaking and probably not worth it for the devs given the VR install base (further splintered into the Star Trek fanbase), but how cool would it be?

Despite the massive amounts of crap VR software, it's so good to see when stuff like Polybius and this pops up and justifies the platform.
