Lockdown 2020: We Live in a Civ-ciety: Episode 01

Come on chat, King = Prince on a real world map. The AI has to act like it is another random gen map while the user knows geography, what Civs are involved and most importantly the locations of their capitals from turn 1.

That's a kinda compressed Sweden. Sweden's east coast is almost as long as the US east coast if you don't count the Florida protrusion. It's ok... we here in the north of Sweden are kind of used to people thinking that Sweden stops just north of Stockholm ;)

Linköping is pronounced Lean-chaaaping... or Lean-chur-ping (or Lin Zhiao Ping)

Interesting that Alex put the trade unit to sleep because he couldn't reach another civ or city state for golds. Wouldn't trading between his two cities gives him a bit of growth and a road?

@kaungo: Yes, and in the early game the food and production from internal trade routes is extremely useful. Internal trade routes are very high-value.

Thanks for the video Alex! I've been wanting to jump back into Civ after I fell off with V, which I found to be too radically different from IV. This seems like a good time to jump in after a couple expansions and a little bit of seasoning. The franchise is currently on sale on Steam and FYI to any prospective buyers that may already have the base game: if you buy Gathering Storm it includes all the added mechanics from Rise and Fall, though you'll miss out on the additional civilizations and wonders.

why is the sea of japan to the North East of Alex? This mod seemed to have placed everything else where you'd expect. He does mention some of the features being randomised, but the rivers and natural wonders are all correctly positioned.

I could watch Alex play this every day

@curiosus: Mountains, rivers and seas (deserts?) are dynamically named in game based on who finds them first.

This will be fun. I've been too passive to start my own civ. Alex will do it for us!

I just got Civilzation VI and Gathering Storm after watching this. I enjoyed the stream very much!

Why does my Create Game screen look different than Alex's? Also When I choose players in this menu, Jayavarman VII and some other leader/civilizations are not represented and don't show up?

Also on that menu, City States and Disaster Intensity text/menu items are flip flopped. Their placement in my menu is the opposite of what is in Alex's menu.

EDIT: I'm guessing Alex is running mod or two.

@femaletanks: Jayavarman VII is part of a DLC. I believe Poland, Australia, and Indonesia are also part of DLC packs, and I swear there are some others I can’t immediately recall. I wishlisted them and got them during a big sale event; none are essential to enjoying the game.

As for other UI differences, it’s probably mods. There are a lot of popular ones for the in-game UI but I’m not aware of any specific ones, I tend to not play with any.

"Peter shut the fuck up" got an actual audible laugh from me. Very happy to see an extended civ feature on the site finally, maybe this will get me to get the latest expansion.

I think that with the map as large as it is, 12 civs might not have been enough to fill it. I don't know if it's even possible to go above that without modding, or how unstable it gets if you do, but I do remember there being problems if you tried to play on a map that was too sparse in vanilla Civ 6, it would stay filled with very aggresive barbarians for the entire game. Maybe that was fixed in a patch or expansion.
