Giant Bomb Presents: Zoe Quinn Has Embraced Our Cybernetic Future

Unlike Adam Jensen, Zoe Quinn asked for this. She's had both a chip and a magnet implanted in her hand that allows her to feel magnetic fields and interact with NFC devices. It's...crazy. So we hopped on Skype to talk about it, and some ideas she has for making games with this tech.

Great interview, fascinating topic. Thanks Patrick.

I remember a scifi book where someone had the ability to see electrical currents sequenced into them and used it for many things, including real time lie detection by watching the brain.

Metal gear?

@tourgen: fair enough. I know there was some reason why it wouldn't be as big of a deal as you would expect though. Can the MRI tech shield it? Maybe it was that? This is research I did almost a year ago.

I don't know, it might be but I doubt it. Shrapnel wounds, metal flakes in the eye (machinists and tool makers), bone reconstructions w/ metal parts, titanium hip replacements - all bad bad news in an MRI machine.

I think it would be safer and easier to just remove the magnetic implants if they are near the surface of the skin though. you could do it yourself with a box cutter and some alcohol.

Great... another cyborg justice warrior. But does all this CJW stuff really make for better games????

(Would social justice cyborg (SJC) have been a better term? It was hard to decide... Both seemed pretty good to me.)

"Cyborg justice warrior" sounds better, but the SJC acronym looks better. Such a tough choice...

I zoned out five minutes into this thing.

@zevvion: I totally understand what you are saying. I am just surprised so many people were upset to see this interview on the site. This seems along the same vein as Patricks interviews at the Eve Festival about space, etc. Tangentially related to some gaming topic but the requirements for any interview dump truck seem minimal.

Also, as an interview dump truck it's not supposed to be funny. It's should be interesting and in that way entertaining, but that's all that's really needed.

Patrick is a journalist first and entertainer second. He's way better at getting people to talk than getting them to laugh. That's why he surrounds himself with Lang and Max on the GB Chicago shows.

Patricks not my favorite GB crew member but without him (and Alex) there would literally be no news portion of this site worth looking at. I love that GB can break stories like they Xbox policy reversal and Infinity Ward merger before other more mainstream sites.

Ultimatelly, you should know by now what you are getting from a Patrick post or Interview. If you don't like his style, it's easy to skip his posts but personally I think he provides a valuable angle to the site the other guys don't.

OH SHIT- the website with a wrestling and F1 podcast posted something not 100% to do with VIDJA? I'd say we should all panic now, but you've already got that handled.

Oh, man. I missed the opportunity to do it before, so better late than never.

I love Zoe, and the content she's been a part of has been a total delight. Thanks for this, Patrick!

Wait, magnet integrated with her nervous system?

i thought it would just vibrate in her finger ever so slightly, and that she would then be able to feel that in just the finger.

But is she saying that she can feel it in her whole body?

That makes no sense to me, i don't understand why a magnet would behave that different just cause it is inside your skin instead of outside.

I think I'm going to hold off until I can get an Adam Jensen voice chip.
