So episode 099 of the official PS Blogcast has Shuhei Yoshida (among others) giving their top ten PlayStation games of the generation (he's the last ~15 minutes). The list itself is pretty good - and his justifications are real interesting/smart but I just want to call attention to his number 1 pick.

I've never heard such an emotional response, from anyone, much less a high level executive, and it really surprised and affected me. Maybe because Shu is already so nice sounding? For lack of a better word it's pretty cute when he talks about how GTAV is really funny. So I wanted to admit that I kind of rolled my eyes (like an asshole) when he announced his number 1 - but then he started talking about why, and I was reminded about the people I've lost in my life, and that those close to me have lost. This was a good, in your face, this person is a human being moment for me. I wonder how many people in Shuhei's position would let gamers hear him get so vulnerable but I think that's besides the point, mostly. It made me want to look for more emotional responses to games, so I'm going to keep that in mind as I write up my own list.

Wow... That was much more emotional than I expected.. It's amazing how Sony CEO's like Shu and Adam Boyes really have opened up and embraced the fact that they are public personas. They obviously have a bias, but they still manage to feel much more human than what you usually see in this industry.

Can't argue with that list, solid stuff and Shu is quite the baller exec. His twitter is outstanding.

Those are some damn respectable choices. Its crazy how Sony is now the ones with public faces that are well loved by the fans and managing to get shit done on the business side too. The Xbox brand desperately needs to figure out its public image. Sure it has Major Nelson but he is the only one right now.

Yeah me too, you can really sense how personal his choices (specially Journey) is.

Wonderful list and I really enjoyed hearing him talk about his choices, especially the way he opens up about his emotional experience with Journey.

While I am in no way a fanboy for any company, as I've owned all the major systems since 1990, Shuhei Yoshida is possibly one of the best figures in gaming as a whole, when ever I listen to him on an interview or see how much time he devotes just to answering random questions just leaves me walking away liking him more and more.

His story about Journey was so raw and honest, it was very moving. A Must listen, if you haven't already.

Shuhei is great. When I first heard him on Podcast Beyond, I thought it was some community guy. Then I realized he's a top executive somehow.

It's awesome.

Well...I still need to play Journey. I guess i should get around to that at some point huh?

It can, especially if your co-op experience lines up just right.

I thought it was sort of adorable how Jeff refused to go back to Journey because he lost the coop partner he was playing with initially. I think it was Jeff who told that story wasn't it?
