Too big games for the PC, and it would be nice to decide the best one. Which one will you think it's the best?

Yes, they are very different, but it shouldn't matter at all, which one would be the best game in your opinion?

Apples are way better than Oranges. No contest in this epic fruit battle.

Both games cater to very different fans. I have played Warcraft 3 untill it was grey and have only had a passing interest in the Civ games. That doesn't mean Starcraft 2 is a better game, it's just a better game for my tastes.

Impossible to say until Civ V actually comes out. Before SC II came out, I was anticipating both equally. I have no doubt that Civ V will suck up more of my time, but that won't necessarily make it better.

I'm getting both, why don't you?

Depends really. I prefer StarCraft II since I also prefer my games to be in real time. Turn based is a little too slow for me.

well admittedly I don't have any interest in either game but I'd go with SC2 because I thought civ 3 was boring and Blizzard are cool people.

Starcraft 2 will have a longer life span regarding Multiplayer and the 10+ hour campaign is great too... and if you suck at ranked games you got challenges to do or plkay in practice league or Custom Games... which are for a lot of people the best part!!

I'll get both, but if I had to choose it'd be StarCraft 2.
Civ games are great, but I'll never touch multiplayer on them because of the length of a single match.

Obviously SC2 is the best. Can Civ 5 have custom ums maps of SC2? I think not.

But seriously, different games, different fans. I think SC2 will have the better life in the long run, especially seeing the whole GSL thing going down.

They are different types of strategy games, so it's hard to compare them all that well.

That said, I have more interest in playing Civilization V.

Do u want multiplayer? I would go with SC2
Do you want to play with AI? I would go with Civ 5

I just think the mutliplayer is superior in SC2, but sometimes you might be in the mood for a comp stomp by yourself.

As everyone keeps saying, very different games so a comparison seems pointless.

Having said that, I'm more of a Civvy addict. So Civ 5 for me if I had to choose.

Star Craft II is the easy answer IMO. I don't like the lack of real combat in Civ. I like all the other stuff Civ has but no real battles. That is why I really enjoy the Total War series.

The New Shogun Total War has me far more excited than either has, but I love Starcraft II, and I'll surely be buying Civ 5 day-one.

Which is better on average? SCII because it has great singleplayer and multiplayer

CIV5 has MINDBLOWINGLY AWESOME singleplayer, but sucky online. (Assuming its as good as previous Civ games) I would choose Civ5 though personally.

I like Starcraft 2, I really do. It's a great game and I've been anticipating it for a long ass time. But, I've rarely been playing it. Maybe it's because I'm going through a phase where games aren't really interesting me anymore, or maybe it's just a great game and not the godsend that I was hyping up. Yesterday, though, I watched the Road to Civ video and as someone whose only played Civ 4 and Rev, the game looks amazing. I'm not sure what it even is that looks so incredible to me. I really like the art style, the new hud, the new movement of units, the ability to do ranged attacks, etc. etc. Idk. It might actually end up being Civ 5 for me. SC2 is still a stellar game though, and you should get it anyway if you have the money.

    Aww, that's not nice.

But in all honesty, I never really got into Empire, purely because I am entirely uninterested in the era during which it takes place. But I still play Rome and ME II to this day, and have spent a couple hundred hours with them, so a return to Shogun seems perfect to me.

I didn't think SC2 was all that, and I'm not a massive Civ fan either, but Civ 5 will probably just edges it for me.

I respect Sid Meier a lot more then whoever that was in charge of Starcraft II.
Sid has a reputation for amazing quality games, not C&C knock offs.
Also, there hasn't been a game more addicting the Civ, and I'm also a history buff, so it's no contest.

I still like SC2, btw, it's just nothing new, really.

Another apples and oranges debate. Not similar enough to decide between to fill the same hole.

But I've always liked the relaxed style of Civ waaaay more than the frantic clusterfuck that is SC.

I meant that it was almost like coding your own game, due to how robust the editor was. The ways you could use python was still pretty restrictive in Civ 4. You're not going to be able to make a shmup with Civ 4's world builder.

EDIT: On topic though, I'm sure I'll be playing the crap out of Civ 5 once it comes out, and SC2 will have to wait. After a week or 2, then I'm not sure which one will hold me.

Civ V for sure. Starcraft is fun, but if you want to really get good at it you have to be a crazy person.
