A procedurally generated space exploration game from Hello Games, the creators of Joe Danger.
A free roaming space sim which puts you in the shoes of a down and out pilot, and then gives you the freedom to earn your riches by performing missions for the various factions, trading or simply shooting other ships and taking their cargo!
Frontier: Elite II was a ground-breaking game that featured fully open-ended gameplay without any scripted missions, nor an actual ending. Trade, fight, transport passengers, or engage in piracy as you explore a realistically modelled galaxy.
Wing Commander: Privateer is an adventure space flight simulation game released by Origin Systems in 1993. You play as a privateer, free to roam around the universe.
Wing Commander is one of the most famous early forays into the space simulation genre. Originally released as a PC game, it spawned three full sequels and was emulated heavily during much of the 1990s.
A sci-fi themed RPG from Nihon Bussan for the Famicom, released in late 1987. It was never released outside of Japan.
Created by Ian Bell and David Braben, this space trading / combat game was revolutionary; combining wireframe 3D graphics with open-ended gameplay to create a distinct gaming experience. Originally released for the BBC Microcomputer in 1984.
