Nemesis Strike is an awesomely bad game. In short, it's a third-person cover-based modern military-themed shooter with some stealth mechanics. Basically, if you played Splinter Cell, Metal Gear, Kill.Switch (if you remember Kill.Switch), Gears of War or the like, then you've played this game a million times before, except for the skying missions, which are by far the best part.
Gameplay:
Nemesis is fun. Plain and simple. Is it dumb? Yes. Is it unforgiving at times? Yes? But more important than either of those things, it is fun.
The gameplay is a lot like Kill.Switch, but at different time you will be given the opportunity to approach things more stealthily. There's also the ability to run and gun if you want. These two segment are divided between the two characters you control. You will play as Raptor and Stealth Owl (which will be referred to as Duke and Snake Eyes respectively for the remainder of this review because the story sucks and it's more fun to pretend they're G.I. Joe's). The difference between these two character is that Duke has a shield that can be recharged at certain stations throughout each level whereas Snake Eyes has cloak and different vision modes.
The mission structure is divided into three s ections. For most part you will be running and gunning and using A LOT of cover, consider this Gears of War before there was Gears of War. Then, at certain points in the game you get to drive vehicles , they don't handle great, but they're still fun, especially the hover craft. But the absolute best part of the game is the skydiving. "Wait, skydiving?" Yes, before each mission with Snake Eyes you have to skydive to w herever you're going. Skydiving is worth the price of admission alone, which is pretty cheap to begin with.
The worst hindrance you'll have with this game is the enemy A.I. It's not very good...okay, it's flat out horrible. Whether it's enemy dialogue being triggered when everyone is dead or enemies spotting you while cloaked (only happened a few times , but still annoying) the enemy A.I. can drag things down but it's nothing that breaks the game because everything's pretty easy. Really, my biggest qualm with this game is the lack of boss battle that the game seems to be leading up to but then never delivers.
Presentation:
The graphics are...well, lets just say they're bad. When you're playing it everything's fine, but the cut scenes are deplorable. Just skip every cut scene and make up your own story. I pretended they were G.I. Joe's, trust me, it will be better that way.
The menus are fine, they let you select your profile and start playing like a menu should.
The soundtrack isn't half bad, decent actually. The dialogue: the absolute worst part of the game.
The Value:
Heck, you can get this game for like 5 bucks.
The Conclusion:
The game production qualities are lacking, sure. But the thing is, Nemesis is fun, and isn't that what games are all about... entertainment? And lest face it, not every game has the superb production of Splinter Cell or Metal Gear. Whether you're skydiving, or sneaking, or just running around blasting people, you're gonna have fun; if you like shooters that is. Nemesis Strike is not a must have, but a welcome addition for a shooter looking to round-out their collection.
