I was just reading up on some fiction of Starcraft and noticed that there are an awful lot of parallels? Are the both universes related in any way?
Terran - UNSC
Protoss - Covenant
Zerg - Flood
Xel'Naga - Forerunners
Overmind - Gravemind
Are they both based of the same subject matter? How do they both get away with such similarities without one suing the other?
StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty
Game » consists of 10 releases. Released Jul 27, 2010
The first chapter in the StarCraft II trilogy focuses on the struggles of the Terran race, as seen through the eyes of Commander Jim Raynor, leader of the rebel group Raynor's Raiders.
Halo Universe and Starcraft Universe
Personally, I think both universes are shallow and shouldn't be any kind of example for 'good' universes etc.
" lol but are they both based on some other DnD universe or something? "Please say that DnD isn't Dungeons and Dragons.
" Halo: Combat Evolved is a first-person shooter, created by Bungie Studios, a subsidiary of Microsoft Game Studios at the time. It was released as an Xboxlaunch title on November 15, 2001"
" StarCraft is an influential real-time strategy game released by Blizzard Entertainment on March 31st, 1998"
Just saying.
Also,"Simpons did Simpons did it." Everything has already been done.
" ...both stole from Games Workshop. /thread "How could I not have called that earlier?
Thank you.

are all inspired from Alien.
There have been signs that point to the Forerunners being the same as the race(I forget their name) that also mysteriously vanished in the Marathon games." @Manhattan_Project said:

This, along with dozens of other references (Mjolnir Mark IV armor in the Marathon games for example) would suggest that they do in fact have some ties.
Next thing you know somebody will make the exact same thread but say Mass effect instead. Seriously giant Space Opera is the story, and solid gameplay is why people stick with it.
" @Dipstick said:Halo and Marathon are separate universes; the visual similarities are just callbacks. They do share some things however, such as the idea of AI Rampancy, which works much the same in both franchises. There have been signs that point to the Forerunners being the same as the race(I forget their name) that also mysteriously vanished in the Marathon games. There was a theory floating around that the object in the legendary ending of Halo 3 was the UESC Marathon, but I'm pretty sure that was officially debunked :(
I think the similarities end with, its space yo, there are animal like alien dudes and civilized alien dudes along with us humans in space. Also, there is no such thing as pure originality. Everything is pulled form everything else, and is then altered in a personal, unique, and creative way. Ideas stem off of each other, and unless someone comes out and says they are ripping off something, or it is extremely obvious, cough Darksiders cough, then its not really a bad thing.
