I'm sure most people by now knows that Starcraft is serious business in Korea. So serious that some progamers got into a match-fixing scandal and got banned from competitive Starcraft. And now, they're even getting jail time based on how involved they were.

The final sentence haven't been given yet but right now, they look like:

"Broker Park: 2 years of jail.
Progamer Won: 2 years of jail + 3,000,000 Won (Roughly $3000)
Progamer Ma: 1 year and 6 months of jail.
Soccer Player Jung: 1 year and 6 months of jail.
Banker Park: 1 year of jail.
Former Progamer Jung: 1 year of jail.
Former Progamer Choi: 1 year of jail.
Self-business Owner Lee: 1 year of jail."

The most notable player being Progamer Ma (aka Savior) who has the second highest ELO peak of any professional Zerg, and dominated SC1 back in 2006-2007~.

"Progamer Ma has stated: "Due to the mistake I have made, I deeply regret my behavior and actions. Although I have to leave the seven years I have been a part of E-Sports, I would like to say sorry to my teammates, my coaches, and everyone who has been a part of E-sports. If I was given another chance, I would contribute everything I can to society and live a rightful, quiet life to work off my indecencies."

Progamer Won has stated: "At first, I did not know what I have done and caused was a big deal, but now that I do realize what I have done, what I have destroyed and contaminated, I am deeply sorry for the fans and my parents. If the court will be more lenient on my charges, I will try my hardest to live a better, and a more respectful life."

Oh Savior, whatever happened to the you destroying everyone in 2009.

So bizarre. I still think going to jail because of money related scandals is odd.

I just kind of feel bad for these guys since it's going to be hard for them to find another job.

Arguably with their winnings they may not have to work for awhile. Still, like the guy above said, illegal gambling is illegal irregardless of what's being gambled on.

    I know.

But progaming isn't a very well paying career unless your among the very very best. Winnings mainly go towards their team and progamers get paid a salary. I think the player with the highest income is Savior, who only gets paid $70,000 US. The rest are probably much lower. It's definitely not enough to live for long in Korea.
