False alarm. Seems only Crysis 2 is gone from Steam for the moment. Just screwy links on game pages and whatnot, my bad. Still, Crysis 2 being gone, and new games like Alice not being on Steam doesnt seem to be a good omen for the whole EA/Steam relationship
Steam

A digital distribution service owned by Valve Corporation. Originally created to distribute Valve's own games, Steam has since become the de facto standard for digital distribution of PC games.
EA Origin vs Steam: EA pulls almost all it's titles from Steam?
I can still find EA games on Steam just fine. Not sure what's going on on your end.
Probably just an EU store thing though. If this is really their plan, then.. I don't even.
This is a pretty dumb move by EA, if you ask me. I can (if I focus enough) that they may want to have some certain high-profile games exclusively on their store, but pulling their whole catalogue from the world's largest online store is... well, dumb.
PS: The games are still in the European Steam store, though.
@Rhaknar: Choose the Electronic Arts that doesn't have TM beside it. There are two entries.

edit: wow the new editor sucks when using links
http://store.steampowered.com/publisher/Electronic%20Arts/ here is link to prove that ea games are still up
i can go to the actual games stores tho so you guys are right... except Crysis 2. that one does seem to be gone. Can anyone check Crysis 2?Crysis 2 is gone for me in Canada. other EA games are there.
I'm going to have to assume they're in the process of pulling their shit from Steam.
Fuck you, EA.
aye, when i click the EA link on the bottom of the Steam store its fine (except Crysis 2, that seems to be completely gone), when i press the EA link on a game page, like Darkspore, it takes me to the busted page where it only shows 1-9 things, 7 of them trailers. Oh well, false alarm so my bad, sorry guys :p and im glad for it, I like my EA shit but i dont intend to use another service like i said.@Rhaknar: Choose the Electronic Arts that doesn't have TM beside it. But Crysis 2 tho, just a lack of keys on EA's part so its temporaly gone, or did they actually pull it from Steam?
hmm crysis 2 is gone, just tried to access it through a bourght copy, clicking the store page link and it just takes me to steam store. odd
All the recent PC games I own from EA are co-linked to my Origin account anyway in case I ever lose access to my Steam account. Redundancy is great.
This means I can buy from Impulse, D2D or (ugh) Gamer's Gate, and as long as they're from EA, I never have to use those other clients to download or play the games.
Also, I don't see why you don't want to use another service like the EA Store. Either you have some weird sort of loyalty to Steam or you're just too lazy to buy the games you enjoy.i have a hard enough time remembering 1 password, let alone multiples. plus i like to have all my games in 1 place. And i like to have my credit card in 1 place, not several. I could go on.
I don't think it's fair to compare them yet, give Origins time to mature. We should have this discussion in six months or a year, Steam was pretty bad when it launched.

But Origin is just a rebranding of the same old EA Store. It's not a new service that just launched.
I think you're missing the point.I don't think it's fair to compare them yet, give Origins time to mature. We should have this discussion in six months or a year, Steam was pretty bad when it launched.
People don't really care how good or bad Origins is. People don't want another service period.
I doubt EA leaving Steam would hurt their new sales much. They have huge marketing budgets and solid brand recognition. Who is idly browsing Steam and say "Assassin's Creed. What's that?" However, people aren't going to check EA Origin regularly for sales and such. So perodic discounts on old titles won't get them as much. But then again the internet does a good job of spreading news of any game sale worth knowing about. Not having to pay Steam a cut is a solid move that will probably pay off in the long term. And rolling it out before their huge hitter is a great idea if they can handle the infrastructure building.

still, Crysis 2 being (temporaraly?) gone from Steam, Alice still not being up there when the game is out this week, it does seem that EA is paving the way to being Origin only. Which is weird, since Steam IS a store afterall.
Looks like they pulled Crysis 2. If they really are trying to pull all their games from Steam I guess I just won't buy the PC versions of their game anymore. GOG and Steam are the only Digital Distribution systems I use on PC and that will continue to be the case even if EA remove their games.

Im also perfectly happy with Steam but competition will only benefit the customers and do good for Steam and Origins.
@YoungFrey: Steamgamesales.com lists sales and price drops for the major digital distribution games services including the EA Store/Origin. Every price conscious PC gamer should have it in his/her RSS feed reader.
My point exactly. I agree that nobody wants another acount to manage, but is going from 19 to 20 digital acount really worth not play a game you want? I'd call that overly reactionary.
I believe Steam takes %30 of sales. And they probably exercise some control over when discounts take place. So EA can handle a 30% drop in digital sales and still make the same money.

so, when they announced Origin they said Star Wars Old Republic would be Origin exclusive but didnt mention other games... but if you do a search of EA games on steam today, every game except Darkspore is gone (darkspore happens to be the midweek sale), all thats left is trailers. Aggresive for sure on EA's part, but will it succeed for them? I for one don't intend to use another download service on my PC, so all this does for me is that I won't be getting any more EA games on PC I guess. what about you guys? do you think this is risky? smart? downright insane?
I was about to make a treath about this -- Aparently that´s the case.. I have no problems with Games for Windows Live, I like achievments and they download tool is decent enough.
BUT MAN I WON´T BUY A RATASS OF EA STORE.
This is true for most things in the consumer marketplace.@Meowshi said:

I disagree it's true here. Steam is already an amazing service, there's not many ways it can improve. All this does is make me run two programs at once, have two friendslists, have seperate game sources, make it more time consuming to back up and/or download games, have two services to check for sales, and on and on.
It's a hassle. End of the world? No, but it's enough that I'm not going to use Origin, at all, unless it's literally the ONLY way to get Mass Effect or Battlefield 3. A lot of people probably feel similiar, so I'm not sure this will even be successful for EA. The cost of running the service is going to outweigh the benefits of first hand selling the games compared to selling it on a third party like Steam.
if EA actually stop supporting steam tho (lets see whats going on with Crysis 2 disapearing, but Alice never was on steam for example), and Activision follows eventually with some sort of battlenet store for their titles, Valve would have to cut their losses and give bigger cuts to publishers right?
It's still significantly more work than simply loading up steam and clicking the game I want. Granted I could just add it as a non steam game to steam I guess, but still. The rest stands. I'm not interested in Origin and I'm not benefiting from ANY competition in this regard as a consumer. Maybe if Steam was abusing their being one of the only options and raising prices.. but that's not happening. So yeah, one of the few areas in the marketplace I am disinterested in competition.@Pinworm45: To be fair, you don't need to have EA Downloader/Origin running to play games you own through it. Just have to launch the game once from it every few months.
