I just launched steam and in my game library under Team Fortress 2 it says: "Team Fortress 2 Beta" and that it's not installed...
Anybody else see this or know what's up with it?

I believe there's another topic about this somewhere on the forums. Basically, Valve is doing a public TF2 beta for... something. I don't know what, though. I've installed the beta, but never launched it. It would probably answer my questions if I had.

I presume it is the same as the Counter Strike: Source Beta, it's a seperate application in which the game's patches are released to be 'beta tested' by the community before being added to the main game.

This. The beta is essentially a testing ground where extensive testing/trials of some of the new features, weapons, and updates that are in the works to be added to Team Fortress 2 take place. If it succeeds in the TF2 Beta, then it gets the green light to be added to Team Fortress 2 via update (Like the Mann-Conomy update)

So it's nothing specific? Just an on-going thing?

the beta is a place to play pure TF2 that hasn't been ruined by stupid drops and purchasing stuff.
