I mostly main Honda and i have since SF2 but for whatever reason i really feel like playing a shoto so i have a secondary character for when i'm in a different kind of mood.  
 
Anyone have suggestions on who to start with? 
 
I have obviously played them all but never really to any extent.  
 
I was just wondering if maybe there was a certain character that may click with me better after playing Honda for so long.

Yeah Sagat or Akuma are the most fun in SF4, but Ryu is the easiest to play as.

Yeah, play Akuma. I see alot of Akuma's nowerdays (much more then Sagat and Ken) but they're pretty much always fun to play against.

Playing with Ken teaches you not to rely on ultra, after all fierce srk fadc ultra is only good for 300 damage. Whatever you decide, stay away from Ryu, we have enough of them as it is.

I had this same idea and am waiting for the new game to come out and pick one of the new characters.  That way i dont feel so bad when I get beat, cause HEY, im trying this new character out and I dont know what the hell Im doing.

I'd play Ryu for the basics of a shoto.

All depends in how you view shotos I guess. If zoning with fireballs and footsies is your thing, then Ryu is really the only choice. If you want to rely more on being in their face and mix-up, you might go with Ken. Akuma does both of those things pretty well, so he's somewhere in the middle. "

not hard at all, the hardest thing to learn is the ultra and even that is easy if you watch a video to see the joystic movements "

Define learning then, because it's certainly more than, "I know his special moves, I know some combos." That's not what is hard about learning Akuma. It's more, "I know how to mix-up proper, safe, and efficient. I know the best time to use each of my tools." "

No one's mentioned Sakura? She's the best, by far!

Shoto is Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Dan. Those are the only shotos IMO. Sagat, Gouken, and Sakura should not be considered shotos.

Gouken is the backwards shoto. He is an otohs.  
 
Sakura wishes she was a shoto, but she's not there yet, so she's like a sho.  
 
Sagat does muay thai, but plays pretty similar to a shoto, so he's a TIGER. Totally makes sense.

I find Rufus a good Anti-Honda.
