" @EnchantedEcho: Arcade mode in general is good for pretty much nothing, I can say it helped me 0%. From easiest to hardest it was pretty much the same difficulty to me, they did the same psychic shit and made the same dumb mistakes. I had trouble with arcade mode but was pretty good at the game a while back, it's not until recently that I just learned arcade mode patterns and now it's easy. "I was just reccomending he try arcade mode to learn all the basic moves. Sure, you'll learn those in player matches but he won't win any for a very long time if he goes strait into their without knowing how to do any moves. Loosing against a real person many times can be disheartening, especialy for a begginner and it's easy to just say "fuck it" at that stage and give up. I was just advising playing arcade mode until he's comfortable with his charcter, then going in to players. I know the fighting couldn't be more different, he'd still get whooped like before but at least he'd have a greater understanding of how to progress. After playing arcade mode to warm up before going into championship (literaly to warm up, it's freezing in the UK at the moment) I can only play arcade mode on the hardest setting because once you feel out the patterns and the spacing you need to be to make them jump or whatever the CPU is a joke. The only way they beat you is because they are psycic and know to counter everything you do.
The best course of action to take, is head into Arcade Mode with the character(s) you are interested in playing. Learn their special moves and how to do them, and maybe learn some basic level combos. Learn the basic shit like how to jump in and sweep and get used to the timing of your character. Once you have a decent idea of the special moves your character has, then start messing around with basic combos. When I say basic, I mean, basic - such as doing a light attack twice and attaching a special move on the end. Learn to establish rhythm within the match and how to use these simple combos. Of course, learn your characters Super and Ultra attack, and be able to execute it on command.
After you feel comfortable with your character, then start doing some Player Matches and prepared to get your shit stuffed in the dirt. Don't take your losses personally - you're just still learning the game and your character. Keep practicing and learn how to pull of combos and special moves in the heat of the moment. You're going to lose a lot at this point because you're still learning the game, so keep working at it and understanding your character's timing and weaknesses.
Before you can master your opponent, you must first master yourself.
He's going to need to go through that anyway. He's going to do it in Player Match. He doesn't know the game and he's still learning. It's better he go through it and learn the hard way then just take someone's advice for it." don't play arcade mode, it teaches you bad habits such as it's ok to dp on wakeup every time your opponent is near you and random ultras work. if you learn to play using arcade mode, expect to spend a month unlearning all the dumb shit you picked up on "
I'm in the same situation and i find Ryu and Ken were real helpful for me to pick up and learn the game with
" @turbomonkey138 said:I made a thread about my skill level before ... he asked me to play him ...and i haven't been able to sit down since ." @Stang said:what do you mean? "" Come play me. "Its a trap .... "
" Do not play Street Fighter IV like you play Tekken 6. Watch some tournament videos on YouTube and see how people play. Not every character plays alike. "Dude, if you could juggle characters in SF like you can in Tekken that would be CRAZY!!!
Oh right.. Sagat... I forgot. Silly me.
Learn how to defend yourself first. Learn the angles from all characters attacks or just Ryu, Ken, Sagat, and Akuma since 75% of on-line battles are against those characters. Learn cancels as well to walk through damage. Also it is really nice to learn a few of the Hard/Normal combos in the Trial area. If you can master Number 4 and All of the Hard ones for a character, you will do well in on-line.
ok anyone who said go into arcade for ANYTHING is giving the wrong advice. you never have to go into arcade mode for any reason other than character unlocks and achievements. thats it. you don't go there to learn your character moves. thats what TRIAL and TRAINING modes are for.
" @Napalm said:Or just go back and play 3rd Strike. That game has some crazy juggles." Do not play Street Fighter IV like you play Tekken 6. Watch some tournament videos on YouTube and see how people play. Not every character plays alike. "Dude, if you could juggle characters in SF like you can in Tekken that would be CRAZY!!! Oh right.. Sagat... I forgot. Silly me. "
" You can't 'juggle' anyone in the Tekken sense, though I admit I'm a strange breed of person who doesn't juggle anyone out of some misplaced sense of honour. I do however know the secret to becoming good at Street Fighter, play it constantly for about 10 years. "Or you could...you know...just be good cause your good.
" @Thrawn: That is fine, my point still stands. Why would somebody interested in SFIV wait for Super? You people swear the game is going to change to the point where what we know is completely gone. I plan to wreck bitches out of the box with Ken, no matter what has changed. "Except that will have to involve a change in and of itself -- you'll have to improve with Ken first if you plan to do that! :P
" @lordofultima said:And threads like this are completely pointless, it's like saying "hey how do I time this combo?" Fuck if I know, stopwatch? Just practice, play people. It's probably the simplest advice you can give to anyone trying to get better at Street Fighter, and it's also the most effective. You play people that are your level or better and you will improve automatically." Just play matches. "Comments like that are not any better than comments like this," Perhaps you could try sucking less:) ""
" Play Gen or Vega, super simple. "Certainly not for a beginner and Vega's pretty terrible in Street Fighter IV, I almost always win against him online even if I can tell the other player's better than me. Not that I subscribe too much to the tier system but he's ranked just one above Dan and personally I prefer playing as Dan.
And I got 5 on Symphony in the Symphony vs Flux battle. No offense to Flux, but down back rog is going to have issues with her Chun.
