Sunset Overdrive Review
Possibly my favorite game on the Xbox One and by far my favorite sandbox game of all time.
The Story follows the main character (who has no name so for this review let's just call them John, based on the name tag of the default character in the E3 2014 trailer) who after an energy drink causes the awesomecaplyse as the game dubs it, John must use a selection of super awesome weapons to defeat the OD and expose Fizzco for the liars they are. One of my only compliants with the story is that the main story part of the game is way too short, granted this isn't the only game with that problem (See Lollipop Chainsaw or Mirror's Edge) but the huge amount of replayablity with side quests and challenges more then makes up for it.
The Gameplay is where this game truly shines, imagine Infamous 2 meets Ratchet and Clank meets Jet Grind Radio with the soundtrack of Tony Hawk Pro Skater and you get Sunset Overdrive. It's an open world game where you explore the world by grinding on rails and jumping off buildings and being utterly stylish.
The Characters are entertaining, I can relate to John as he's an adult who acts like a teenager and he (or she if you chose the female gender) delivers some rather funny lines. In fact, all characters are funny but other then being humorous, the characters sadly don't have much going for them, but since the ending of the story mode hints at a sequel, I guess I shouldn't complain too much.
The Soundtrack, oh the fucking soundtrack is sooooooooooooo good! I'm a big fan of Punk Rock and Pop Punk music and the soundtrack is full of these types of songs. I know this segment might come off a little bias but good damn, this game has my favorite VG soundtrack of all time.
In Conclusion, If you like fast paced, comedic games and don't mind lack of character building or a short story then I highly recommend Sunset Overdrive.
