Not too long ago, Valve added the Mann Co. Store to Team Fortress 2, allowing users to exchange items and real world cash for in-game items. Thus far, this new storefront has been featuring community-created wares from the winners of the Polycount item-modding contest, and as was promised, these creators are taking home a cut of what has been made during the first two weeks of the Mann Co. Store's existence--and it's a jaw-dropping amount.

According to Valve, five creators, Rob Laro, Shawn Spetch, Steven Skidmore, Spencer Kern and Shylyn Hamm, have taken home checks ranging from $39,000 to $47,000 dollars per person. That's, like, a lot of money for optional (and goofy) items and weapons.

    No Caption Provided

== TEASER ==Gamasutra reckons from conversations its had with Valve and the winners that the cut is 25 percent, meaning, according to Big Download, that Valve has potentially made around half a million bones from these knickknacks. Half a million!

"At a time when content creators are struggling with changing markets and evolving technologies, the Steam community is sending a clear message with these checks," Valve president Gabe Newell said in a press release statement.

If you're saying to yourself, "Hey, I like money and I can do this," go ahead. Valve has a website up for those who want to contribute to future updates or learn more about the process. And, hey, since I told you about it and all, think I could get five-percent of whatever you make? Just asking.

It should be noted that that's how much they earned IN THE FIRST MONTH. The Mann Co. update came out September 30.

Granted, a lot of people probably bought a bunch of stuff right away and won't buy the same items again, but damn. Valve is the best.

Internet logic at its finest. *head asplodes*

I've nabbed about $8 worth of misc weapons.  If I had $50 to blow I would definitely get the full community bag of tricks because it is a huge amount of stuff, but I just don't play enough TF2 to make it worthwhile for my student budget. Also, BUYING CHEST KEYS? (Sorry I've done that rant before.)  The store is a super weird change to the game, that's for sure. I do think it's hilarious that TF2 gets a proper trading system, and Borderlands is still Drop 'n Swap.  What are the odds a Gearbox sequel will have a RealMoney$tore? :)

It still is. That's the beauty of TF2. You can ignore all of this stuff and still play the game, which is basically the same style as it was in September 2007.

They just modeled and skinned a few items, and probably finished making them like, a month ago to submit to the Polycount contest.

No telling really, but I guarantee it will be on sale (probably $5 or less) in the Winter sale that usually happens after Xmas or so. But really, it's only $20 and it's more than well worth that price.

While I love Valve's updates on Team Fortress 2 and I still own it and I love that its always fresh, those prices on gear is ridiculous. Each gear usually costs the price of Team Fortress 2 itself and that is kinda crazy.

Sadly I won't part with any money for in-game items at all. I only hope I won't be extremely gimped someday by some dude who bought some crazy weapon that cost $29.95.
