A strange voice radiates from the shining portal, beckoning an adventurer to become "his" champion. You follow the voice through the gateway and find yourself in a small square room with a chair on either side of a stone table. In the furthest chair sits a mysterious bald man asking for you to "be civilized" and to take a seat. You do as he says and he introduces himself as Haskill, servant of the Daedric Lord Sheogorath, known as the Prince of Madness and ruler of a divided realm. The Elder Scro...

After The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’s release last year, Bethesda Softworks has been slowly releasing little nuggets of new content via Xbox Live Marketplace. Most of this content, while cheap, didn’t add much to the game. Unlike the previous downloads, the Shivering Isles is an expansion pack filled with content, adding roughly 20-40 hours of new gameplay for those still running around Cyrodiil. The expansion begins when you hear news about a strange island that has sprouted up in the middle o...

A worth while expansion that lives up to The Elder Scrolls name. 0

Shivering Isles is the first official expansion for TES:Oblivion. While Knights of The Nine added another quest line and a few more hours of gameplay, Shivering Isles does double that with a larger main quest for the special land and dozens of side quests. Nothing graphical has changed here so you can expect to see top of the line graphics that require an average machine to run decently. The main point of the expansion is New content, whether it be creatures, quests, items, details, or settings...

This is more than enough to get you back to Oblivion. 0

We all know Oblivion's flaws - the constant freezing, some annoying bugs and the fact it reaches an end eventually - and with this expansion pack one of the flaws can be postponed. So anyone who liked Oblivion should have this, no matter how, especially since the game of the year's edition is being shipped with both expansions - Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine - which makes it an even more essential deal. You can also purchase at the fine Xbox Live Arcade or at a store in a physical purc...

Last year I called Oblivion my favorite game of 2006, and that opinion sticks. Good points can be made about the generic fantasy setting, reduced depth compared to Morrowind, and some promises less than completely fulfilled, like the new AI which had some silly problems. But I still enjoyed the hell out of it for a long time, and continued to do so long after I wrote that. Pretty recently I added a whole bunch of content, including most of the add-ons, the enjoyable Knights of the Nine quest lin...

A great expansion brings back Morrowind's magic 0

As good as Oblivion was, it really took Shivering Isles for Bethesda to show off how truly great that world could be. As soon as you enter the realm and meet Sheogorath’s right-hand man, Haskill, you know you’re in for something special. While it never changes any core game mechanics, Shivering Isles is a tribute to great quest, character and world design that many detractors (myself included) felt Oblivion lacked. The whacked-out Daedric realm is begging to be explored and rewards wandering pos...
