Overview
The King of Fighters ALLSTAR is a free-to-play belt-scrolling beat-'em-up RPG developed and released by Netmarble (under license by SNK) for iOS and Android devices in Japan (on July 26, 2018) and Korea (on May 9, 2019), with a later worldwide release on October 22, 2019.
Story
The player wakes up in the world of The King of Fighters without any memory. However, while wandering around they stumble across an energetic girl named Noah, and suddenly awaken to the powers and abilities of various fighters. The player then participates in the King of Fighters tournament to try and find someone who might know who they are. Meanwhile, in the "real" world, a group of people called Tuners are hunting down a mysterious bug in their system that is changing the original timeline of the King of Fighters tournaments and growing beyond their control.
Gameplay
Players collect characters from across the King of Fighters franchise and play as them in a side-scrolling beat-em-up game. At the beginning, players choose to start with one of three characters from KOF 94:
Kyo Kusanagi (Attack)
Ryo Sakazaki (Defense)
Terry Bogard (Balance)
Each character starts out with basic attacks, a dodge roll, and blocking ability, all of which can be triggered by tapping the related button. As players acquire more characters through summoning, they can increase their capabilities and available special attacks by acquiring Cores and using them to unlock the core ability tech trees within each character.
All characters in the game have an elemental affinity that can offer an advantage or disadvantage in battle depending on the affinity of the opponent.
