I'm curious to see the gamecube version. I had only played the Wii version before. Sounds like this has both with enhanced features and amiibo support, etc. I remember the game being long, but there were definitely some cool moments, like the double hookshot temple and charging through the moblin army on Epona's back just cutting dudes down left and right. And that bridge scene. Also, when I played the original, it was on my small sd dorm room tv, it will be great playing this on the big HD screen in my living room

Twilight Princess gets an HD remaster mainly based on the GameCube version with many added features including amiibo support, a new challenge cave, and several gameplay tweaks.
Anyone actually excited for this?
Absolutely. Hype meter was full the instant the game was announced. Truth be told, I actually don't remember all that much from my initial playthrough of Twilight Princess, so I'm excited to experience all the content over again. But really the thing I always loved about this game was its look, especially the art direction that fueled the Twilight Realm.
Super eager for this one.
I've watched a few comparison videos and I can't for the life of me see a big difference besides the WiiU version being, like, brighter or something? I'm not trying to be dismissive or anything, I honestly can't tell how it's an HDified version. Weird.
I can't get myself excited for it at all. I played Twilight Princess at launch on the Wii and I can only remember bits and pieces of it, it made so little of an impact on me. It was 40 hours long, I didn't die once, and Midna's writing was the best part of the game. It's not Skyward Sword bad, but it's probably my 2nd or 3rd least favorite Zelda game.
I only played Twilight Princess once for the Wii, and I have to say that the idea of playing those wolf segments again makes me annoyed. So no.
Overall I thought that game was a drag. Managed to beat it, but I had to force myself to. Never played Skyward Sword, so I consider Twilight to be the worst of the franchise.
I don't know if I'd say "excited," but I'm definitely looking forward to giving it another shot and hopefully enjoying it this time. I bailed out on the Wii version 5-6 hours in when I just couldn't deal with the controls any more.
I am excited I missed this on game cube and skipped the Wii so I never played this game before so it's kinda like a brand new Zelda game for me.
Despite the fact it is tied with Skyward Sword for being my least favourite Zelda game I still pre-ordered the HD version the moment it was available.
A poor Zelda game is still better than 80% of anything else out there so...
Maybe not excited, but at least interested. I played the Wii version, and while I didn't love it I do remember enjoying parts of it. I'd be interested to see a different control scheme and upgraded graphics/game mechanics, if anything.
I skipped over Twilight Princess when it first came out. So I don't really have any excitement for this HD remaster. Yet I'm still slightly curious to see what I missed so I could pick this up someday.
You know, I really love Twilight Princess. Not only would I say that it's my favorite Zelda game, but that it's one of my favorite games of all time. Definitely in my top ten.
I'm not excited at all for this. They're charging full price for this game, right? I feel like if they're charging the full price of a full game, this should have been a full remake. Completely redo all the character models, textures, environments, etc. An up-rez job and some small fixes here and there is not worth $60 to me. I'd say that I'd wait for a sale, but Nintendo is pretty notorious for their games not really dropping much in price.
Kind of a bummer, really. I wasn't kidding about how much I love the game, but I wish they had gone further in making it look nicer. Unlike Wind Waker, I don't think this game holds up graphically very well. At least not based on what I've seen of this version.
Oh well.
I played it for the GameCube way back when it launched, and I loved it. The story is cool, and it has some of the most fun and challenging bosses and dungeons in the whole series. I would love to play it again, and I'm not so hot on the Wii port that I currently own, but I think $79.99 CDN is asking quite a lot. If it were $39.99 I'd be tempted.
@eddiephlash: I've always wanted to play it. I got rid of my Wii before this came out.
Unfortunately, I don't have a WiiU either... :/
I'm very excited! I have never played Twilight Princess because I only recently got into the series. I really disliked the 30 hours I spent playing Ocarina of Time on the 3DS which made me reluctant to try any of the others, but I'm glad I have the series another chance because A link Between Worlds might be one of my favourite games ever and Windwaker and Majoras Mask are excellent also.
@pompouspizza: It's interesting that you didn't have a great time with Ocarina of Time, but enjoyed Majora's Mask quite a bit more. I would've thought that if the N64-era controls and mechanics made you dislike one, it would make you also dislike the other. What worked for you in Majora's Mask but didn't work in Ocarina of Time?
@mooseymcman: They're only charging 50 technically, the 60 dollar price is for the initial release with the pack-in amiibo. Which is still a lil pricey for a simple HD remaster.
For some reason though, I'm really excited to get this. Twilight Princess was a really fun game and I'd love to play it again.
I wouldn't call myself excited, just kinda curious to replay a version that's not my motion controller required Wii version. I really struggled to finish the last part of it, even back in the day though, so I dunno.
This guy made a bunch of cool videos where he talks at length about the different games. If I was a wiser man I'd rewatch this one right now to try to cure any inclination I had for purchasing and playing the game again, but alas.
I wonder if they fixed that thing he complained about where an emotional moment is kinda ruined by, constantly fading in and out, enemy encounter music.
It is my least favorite Zelda game. I am curious to revisit it since I played through it once in 06 and then one more time in 10, but largely forget anything about it. Maybe this time I'll like it! Probably not.
I might see how I feel? I think I used to have the GC version (or my brother did) and I got like close to halfway and just wasn't feeling it at the time. I might be more into it but I dunno. My problem with this game (and I think with OoT and MM) was that Nintendo is known for their use of lighting and color schemes. They do a really good job with that stuff in my opinion. I sorta felt like a lot of those games didn't have that stuff. And as a result I ended up staring at a lot of brown colors all the time. I think that's why WW stood out to me so much.
I never finished the game on the Wii, along with 95% of the games I was playing back then (Being hopelessly addicted to RO didn't help). I remember enjoying it for the most part, except when I was fighting the controls. I'm hoping it'll be a smoother ride without the motion controls and the Amiibo stranglehold hasn't let go just yet (I swear I'm done after Wolf Link/Ryu/Bayonetta/maybe Cloud). I'm planning on doing a playthrough of the 3D games (Mixture of replays and finally finishing) when the new Zelda gets a release date.
The stuff that carries over to the next game with the Wolf Link is going to be worth it, right? Right???
I wouldn't say I'm excited, and I don't own a Wii U yet so I won't be jumping on right away, if at all. But I still don't get how Twilight Princess can be at the bottom of everyone's lists. I mean, I have problems with it -- it's insufferably linear (no, fuck off Zora queen ghost, I just went through three goddamn set-piece sequences, I just want to explore and do random shit for a while), rupees and inventory management don't matter, the story gets hijacked to hell, they do that infuriating thing where Link is the only character who gets to see the magical things despite near miss after near miss, and I get that some people were a little impatient with the twilight bug hunts -- but the game has some almost objective positives going for it:
- Zelda games are about dungeons. Twilight Princess has the best dungeons of any Zelda game. Even the relatively few side-caves scattered across the world are often great, too. Case closed, right?
- The horseback combat is really good. Like, I can't think of better horseback combat in a video game. God, this gives me so much hope for Zelda U.
- Story gets hijacked pretty badly, but man, what a final fight...
@bisonhero: I can't speak for @pompouspizza, but MM is probably my favourite video game whereas OoT is considerably more "meh" (though still great). Basically, OoT is insufferably linear and main quest-obsessed, its NPCs are flat, the entire setting is pretty plain (although at least the story and worldbuilding aren't as bad as ALttP). To contrast it more directly with some things I think make MM better: getting replay value out of OoT is a chore whereas it's easy to replay bits of MM whilst keeping your progress intact, Zelda puzzles are intellectual junk food and are aided by the stress of a timer, the three-day cycle brings in a layer of scheduling and planning elements which are fun and make rupees matter a little more, MM has 52 heart pieces in the overworld which is the most of any Zelda game, MM lets you play as a Goron and a Zora.
Then there's the part where MM is actually an art game and a deconstruction of the chosen hero narrative, which is super compelling for people who are sick of the fantasy of being told they're the hero of everything just because they followed some instructions, beat some puzzles and killed some enemies whose strategies were to present the facade of trying to win so you feel good when you do the obvious routine things to beat them.
@mooseymcman: It's not full price. It's $60 with the amiibo meaning the game itself will likely be $50 which is the same as Wind Waker HD
I feel like I should be excited for it, but I'm not even sure I'm going to buy it honestly. I've been a bit burned out on zelda lately. I have the wind waker remaster but still haven't replayed through all of that. I think I'd rather finish that than play twilight princess again at this point, or I could just play MM on the 3ds. I guess my issue is that there are better zelda games to revisit if I feel like replaying a past zelda.
Not hyped or excited, but I do have it pre ordered. It's the only Zelda game I haven't played through all the way (minus those bad ds ones) and hope that enough time has passed since the disappointing launch of that game for me to enjoy it.
@eddiephlash: I've always wanted to play it. I got rid of my Wii before this came out.
Unfortunately, I don't have a WiiU either... :/
You do realize Twilight Princess was a launch game? It's incredibly impressive that you managed to own and get rid of a console before it was actually released.
I'm super excited as I lost my Wii copy of the game years ago and have been wanting to replay it. I loved Twilight Princess. It's not my favorite Zelda game, but it's probably my third favorite. Beat it twice, finished the underground pagoda-esque challenge. It was great. I don't get the hate for it. The dungeons are some of the best in the series by far. I don't see how anyone can argue that they're not. The stuff you do outside the dungeons (Wolf sections, wagon escort quest, etc) mostly sucks, but so what? It's such a small part of the game, get over it. At least they absolutely nailed the part of a Zelda game that really matters.
noooooo. it felted very dated then.
I am interested in how it looks and the reaction in 2016 to it compared to wind waker not that both are on wii u
I was interested in playing it again, but then I remembered that I never played much of Wind Waker HD and would much rather play that.
I must have started and not finished this game at least three times back on the Wii. I think on my last attempt (in 2011 or 2012) I made it to the cloud area (???) before checking out and not bothering to come back. I would really love to play through and finish it; one of the reasons why I was never able to were those darn waggle controls. It's a long game but parts of it are really neat and I like a lot of the design.
I also don't own a Wii U and maybe this and Mario Kart and Splatoon are enough to justify dropping some dimes.
Nah. It was super disappointing to me when it came out and I don't see that changing. Really the past 10 years of Zelda games have been super disappointing with the exception of ALBW. Twilight Princess is the best of those disappointments, but still a disappointment. I can at least say I somewhat enjoyed it unlike Skyward Sword's horrible everything, Phantom Hourglass's tedious backtracking, and Spirit Track's forgettable everything.
Not really. I liked it for the most part back in the day (in fact it's the only Zelda game in the last 10+ years I've actually enjoyed) but I don't really need to play it again. Maybe could bite if I see it for $30 or less.
I have very fond memories of getting my Wii console on launch morning and going home to play Zelda. I enjoyed that game... Not too sure I want to go back to it however.
@bisonhero: It surprised me too. ocarina was my first experience with the Zelda series and I went in with the high expectations because of the way people talk about that game, I also found some of the puzzle solutions in the game annoyingly obscure. By the time I got to Majoras Mask I had played a few of them and absolutely loved them so I understood a lot more about how the games worked if that makes sense? I do respect what Ocarina did for videogames though.
I remember the beginning part of the game when you're doing menial tasks in the village to be really long and boring, and also that Midna was a cool character. I might play it again.
I think the asking price is a bit high on this (even though it is a big game) and I have too much other stuff to play right now. That said I do like Twilight Princess, it has its problems with pacing and occasional mechanical annoyances but it's so big that once you get into the later dungeons there is some really interesting design behind the items, dungeons and bosses.
@eddiephlash: I've always wanted to play it. I got rid of my Wii before this came out.
Unfortunately, I don't have a WiiU either... :/

HAHAHA no I didn't realize that. I honestly didn't own a Wii long enough to really dig deep into the library. Bought one on a whim when they were hard to find. The appeal disappeared quickly and I sold to somebody within 6 months for more than what I paid for it.
