The Legend of Zelda
Nintendo's flagship fantasy action-adventure series created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka in 1985, the Zelda series is the source of many revolutionary gameplay conventions, and continues to be one of the most popular and critically acclaimed video game franchises of all time.
Miyamoto's Thinking About Next Wii Zelda Game
I would appreciate and welcome a Zelda that dares to do something, ANYTHING, new. Knowing how tradition-loving Nintendo is, I'm guessing controls have a better chance of changing over aesthetic and narrative.
I played through most of Twilight Princess before getting bored and selling it to my friend. It felt like an Ocarina of Time knockoff.
I have yet to finish a single Zelda game...started Ocarina, Twilight , Hourglass and though i remember enjoying all of what i played of them, for some reason i just stop and never went back...spooky really.
" Fan-fucking-tastic. Zelda goes casual. You may finish raping my youth now, Nintendo. Just make sure you wipe it down after. "
" You make it sound like you created it. you should probably reword your post. Also, do we know for sure this is the one he showed? "
People screaming for a follow up to Twilight Princess are fools in my honest opinion, not only did the game feel no different from OoT, it had lost the sense of style it gained from Wind Waker. It's no wonder Miyamoto said at the time that the realistic style of TP was purely for the fans, and that after that he would be doing things differently. I fully support the wind waker art direction, and it's not like Zelda doesnt have the same great gameplay, because it does. There's far too many realistic looking games these days, Zelda doesn't need to be one of them.

If you keep all the characters, the story arc, the gameplay mechanics, the icons & staples of Zelda but switch the environment it's definitely STILL Zelda.
You can even call the futuristic town Hyrule.....

Edit: Also, no, future with the same names != Zelda. Also, Sci-fi sucks.

Wont care until next year when we can see something.
That art is interesting...but I doubt it has any bearing on what the final product will look like.
"The potential for it [Zelda] becoming Wii MotionPlus-only is depending on how well Wii Sports Resort sells," he laughed.

I was hoping they would unveil this at this years E3. Oh well, gives me something to look forward to for next year I guess. I just hope they really switch things up with the Zelda formula, as I am tired of all A Link To The Past recycling they have done, which has been pretty much every Zelda game since A Link To The Past. I really hope that they will pick an art style that will still look good three years after the game is released, because TP looks like complete ass today, yet WW still looks amazing thanks to the art style they used. Also, if they are going to do the whole cinema/theatrical/movie thing again with this one then get some voice actors. Get some good voice actors. How about David Hayter as Ganon, or whoever the villan will be? My biggest problem with TP was that in those scenes they took the control at which the text appeared on screen away from the player so the player couldn't read at their own pace, and me being a slow reader wound up missing most of what was being said/narrated at those events.
Also a Sci-Fi Zelda would be gay. It would be like Phantasy Star, but worse.

I actually expected a new Zelda to show at E3. It's about damn time that one did, too. I mean this fall, it will have been 3 YEARS since the last one! In fact, that's why I was underwhelmed in Metroid because of that. I heard "new take on a seasoned franchise", and then the Team Ninja logo and I just thought "HOLY SHIT, IT COULDN'T BE!" And of course, it turns out that not only wasn't that the case, but they haven't even started development on a new Zelda game. Think about it though. Some Ninja Gaiden treatment and a new setting is EXACTLY what the Zelda franchise needs. Don't get me wrong, I'll buy and probably love this next Metroid game, but damn, a Zelda in space developed with help from Team Ninja would be the greatest game ever made.
Future Zelda SOLD!
Link must be an adult and have an arsenal of weapons AT THE START.
And gain even more weapons.
Lastly, an interesting plot with voice acting
Ok, so I came across this page for whatever reason, and began reading the comments. Either the lot of you represent an EXTREMELY small minority of the general Zelda fanbase, or almost all of you are idiots (and I mean that in the nicest possible way). Not one of you seems to like Twilight Princess, which, like it or not, is still a very high critic choice, and is an excellent game (at least on the Cube, where it was intended to be played). It does not "look like ass today," graphically it still looks very pretty, beautiful lighting and textures, especially for a gamecube game. So fuck you who made that idiotic comment. Ocarina of Time is the best, most critically praised, and most widely accepted greatest game of all time. I read some comment here that said it was one of the worst Zeldas, so fuck that guy too.
More on TP, it felt much different than OoT. The only similarities were the realism and familiar NAMES of temples, and, of course, the regular item set. It had a completely different storyline, completely different characters, much bigger world map, darker scenario, wolf form, etc. Yes, some of the temples have the same names, but they are presented much differently, which is fine.
Somewhere someone suggested scrapping the familiar arsenal, which includes, but is not limited to, the Boomerang, the Hookshot, etc. What, and why? These are an integral part of the Zelda experience, which leads me to my next MAJOR point.
Along with certain items, the whole medieval, castle, princess, swords, monsters, armor, fantasy genre element is extremely integral to the nature of the Zelda franchise, and a "futuristic" Zelda (how the fuck can you idiots even utter such heresy) would be the end of the franchise itself. Zelda = fantasy genre. Nothing else. Not sci-fi, certainly. So, the one single commenter who actually said "Zelda isn't Zelda if it becomes Science Fiction" was absolutely right. Congratulations, you. Link would cease to exist in a futuristic universe with guns, lasers, hover cars, space, etc. It simply is NOT Zelda, even if it should carry the name. I cannot believe this notion excites you. Of course Nintendo won't do this, because they, being the creators of Zelda, know that Link's place is in the fantasy genre THANK GOD.
Like I said, EXTREMELY small minority of the general Zelda fanbase, or perhaps you aren't even so much fans as you are "visionaries" who want to see a respectable franchise ruined. I know your rebuttal would assert that it would not ruin, but "re-vamp," and that I'm the idiot, but you see I am ahead of you. If you feel that the game needs some "re-vamping," then how about this: they change the characters (except Link and Zelda of course), change the plot, recreate a different Hyrule, even up the graphics or perhaps change them, but all the while retaining the nature of Zelda, which is the familiarity of bombs, boomerang, Hylian Shield, other items, and most importantly, fantasy genre. Hmm, when looking at that, it seems as though that's what they usually do, and wow, Zelda still is a frontrunner in the industry. Fancy that.
Now, these are not the ramblings of a fanboy (although you could call me that, and I would shake your hand sir). These are the logical thoughts of one who is logical (haha) and recognizes just why Zelda is as great as it is. Needless to say, most of you will probably be displeased with the next installment. However, many many many many more people would probably kill Nintendo, then you, then themselves if the next game followed most of your suggestions. So, I'm sorry that this has been terribly long-winded, but I cannot sit idly by and say nothing about those comments. I should have never stumbled across this page, haha.
Hey, and did I see a disparaging comment about LotR? Odd, because as I remember it LotR is easily one of the most highly acclaimed film achievements of all time. In fact, statistically, it far surpasses any other film trilogy or franchise (notice I did not say "single film") in terms of critical success. 17 Oscars. Monetarily, nearly 3 billion at the box office (before inflation), which isn't the highest for a franchise, but is the highest for a trilogy or any three movies combined from any other franchise. So, telling a person to "go watch LotR" seems to be, ultimately, a pretty good suggestion. I have other things to do with my life, if you were wondering, but I'm in the middle of a lull in time between dinner and Dragonball Z marathon time in the dorm room down the hall, and I'd rather rant here than revise that paper due Monday.

What?
