I hate to use these terms but this is all I know to describe the sound.

Tech Noir and retro synth sound that I wasn't expecting.

This has may have been discussed a year ago but I'm only starting to play and love it.

Power Glove, VHS Glitch, Lazerhawk etc come to mind as influences.

Indeed it is. My friends and I have all made comments about the combat music.

Check out the Deus Ex: Human Revolution soundtrack if you haven't. It's one of the best video game soundtracks out there and it's in the same vein.

It actually reminds me of Splinter Cell Blacklist’s soundtrack. I know Ubi tends to keep some of the same music people around, so that could possibly be why. Now I want to check for some reason.

The first game had a fantastic soundtrack too, though less rock-y. It's kind of like if you mixed Vangelis with John Carpenter and maybe Joseph Trapanese (a composer who helped with Tron and Oblivion). Both games have underrated soundtracks in my opinion, or not spoken as something that's a high point in the games too often I feel.

The base game has a lot of great tracks.

I'm loving a lot of the new tracks in the Warlords of New York expansion though. I've been taking my time playing through the expansion, but man... all the mission level tracks are great. It's an underrated OST for sure.

I played this game a ton and muted the soundtrack to listen to podcasts so now I feel like I gotta check out that OST.

Yup, really enjoyed the soundtrack too, both the more ambient kind and the tunes that play during combat. Gets you pumped up.
