....no. It isn't. At all.

Have you played Little Big Planet? This is nothing like that.
Little Big Planet is a 2D, side-scrolling platforming game with a content editor so powerful that it allows users to create basic games in completely different genres.
Trials Evolution is a 2D, side-scrolling racing game with a content editor so powerful that it allows users to create basic games in completely different genres.
Seems fairly similar to me. Did you both watch the second half of that first video?

does it have really bad controls?
If it's anything like the first Trials, it will have great controls. My guess is that the editor won't be nearly as impressive as LBP2, but better controls will probably help that fact.

I'm guessing you didn't play Halo 3, Halo: Reach, or any of the Forza's. User generated content is a huge part of those games.
Those are both good examples, but at least Halo wasn't as user friendly as this. When I was playing Halo, you couldn't make single player content, and the multiplayer content couldn't be played on Live with random people, for obvious reasons. Unless you happened to be playing with several friends, the content editor really wasn't that big of an addition. For the most part, you just ended up playing the same maps that shipped with the game.
Being that trials will mostly be centered around single player creations--or multiplayer with, at most, two or three friends--I think that the editor here will be much more valuable. And no, I didn't play Forza.
I'll retract my suggestion that MS has never supported user content, and restate by saying that I don't believe that Microsoft has supported user content to extent that Sony has, and this game will certainly help that fact.
