    Uncharted: Drakes Fortune Review (PS3)

So, this game was supposed to be the first good shooter on the ps3.  Something that wasnt just about killing, but had its merits in storytelling as well.  Its too bad this game fails on both accounts.

First off, as a shooter, this game is a joke.  I know most of you would point to the bullet spounging by the enemies, but my biggest issue is with the cover system.  I spent the entire game looking past pillars and past things instead of gripping to them.  this made shooting enemies much easier for the majority of the game, but what is also did was in instances where a mass of enemies was set to rush me, things just turned into a "reload and hold the fire button" fest.  This really broke what the devloper was trying to do with the cover mechanic, but it avoided the whole try to ungrip the wall while be flanked on the side.  I guess what i am saying is that the A.I. is at the point where if you get flanked because you are sitting in one spot, the covering mechanic is so poor that you cant ungrip and shoot them in time.

Now, we all know the enemies suck bullets, but by looking past the walls and such to shoot them with headshots, it makes the game just a headshot fest.  Getting back on point though, the mixture of weapons isn't, the enemies are all triggered by footsteps which is extremely annoying, and the level design is just plain boring.

This gets maximized when you get halfway into the game and you have to play the demo levels.  Something which doesnt fit the rest of the game, and something which is a stark contrast to the rest of the game.

Now, the story for the first half of the game was great.  All the way up until the point where you escape from the prison.  After that, things just go to a place where in my head I was imagining one thing happening, but in reality something much dumber and unimaginative occurred.

Either way, no one will play this game, and now that Uncharted 2 is coming out and everyone sees the improvements, most seem to be saying what i had said in the first place.  Avoid this game, unless you really want it for the story.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune tells the story of Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter, as well as a descendant of the famous historical figure Sir Francis Drake. Drake and his friend, Sully, are chasing the ancient lost city of El Dorado. Together, accompanied by journalist Elena, they follow clues in the journal that belonged to Francis Drake himself. You can expect some plot twists here and there, and for the most part, the story is great. It starts off slowly, introducing you to the character...

I wanted to like it more 0

Uncharted looks great, there is no denying that.  The story is also decent, and the gun play is functional, so why don't i like it more?   Uncharted, for those who don't know, is Gears of War meets Tomb Raider meets Indiana Jones.  The influence from Indiana Jones is in the story, and that bit is really well told.  Nathan Drake is a great action hero and Nolan North really brings him to life.  I also ended up actually liking the obligatory love interest and the villains are suitably evil.  There...
