The Valis series began in 1986 with the MSX release of the original Valis game. It featured a female protagonist named Yuko who was selected by Queen Valia of Vecanti to be the soldier of Valis and protect both the real world and Vecanti from the evil king Rogures. The series was noted at the time for its cutscenes, charming characters, and simple gameplay. Due to the declining fortunes of Telenet Japan, the franchise was re-worked in to a series of erotic visual novels circa 2006 before Telenet completely shut down. The license is currently owned by Sunsoft, but if they shall do anything with it is unknown. A Valis manga series is currently being published in the seinen magazine "Comic Valkyrie".
