A Closer Look at Final Fantasy XV's Combat

I want this game.

If this ends up being not as Hardcore on rails as this appears could be interesting.

I really, really hope this isn't utter shit. I want to like a Final Fantasy game again.

Looks pretty awesome. But I have no idea what is going on in it. Also hope this comes to PC.

Can believe I am actually kind of excited for this, haven't been excited for a FF game for a long time. The character design actually looks ok this time around, especially when compared to 8, 10 and to slightly lesser extend 12 and 13.

I feel like I'm going a little insane. How does this look good!?

Hate to be such a pessimist but this is the same old shlock square does every time. A flashy superficial trailer with glimpses of combat and the facade of some intelligent thought provoking story.

Square is the snake oil salesman of the game industry; hopelessly out of touch with the market and scrambling to make an impact by aping style and design of more successful games of different genres. They rope us in each time by banking on the iconic trademarks of the series and the promise that the old Final Fantasy we loved is back and reborn.

Oh, The Iron giants look sorta neat too I guess...

I'm really interested to see what the game will be like beyond this opening chapter, and if there will still be open fields and such that were shown in the really old Versus XIII trailers.

The combat looks like a tweaked version of the Kingdom Hearts combat, so it'll probably be fine, I'm just curious if the leveling system will be similar as well.

I hope they start showing later parts of the game soon too, I want to know how far off the game's release is at this point.

@fracture: It's easy to say that because there's still a menu option that says 'attack' that it hasn't changed, but it really has, in terms of the amount of automation given to other party members (started in FFXII, became a totally different monster in FFXIII) in terms of trying to branch out and add character leveling customization (still basically unheard of in other JRPGs) that's basically as of FF7. You could point to how the magic system is different in every game, where they experimented with basing it on enemies souls in FF8 and took away the concept of mana in 13. Okay yeah, they've never turned the JRPG into a 4x strategy game, but what individual franchise can you say has changed more? Sure as hell isn't GTA.

I think there's less than 30 seconds of new footage in this trailer.

besides the first bits of dialog and a few new scenes near the end this was pretty much the E3 trailer but only they slapped on the UI

I hope this game actually gets released while I'm still Interested and Alive, because it's looking pretty snazzy at the moment.

Is it too much to ask for a good old fashioned turn based Final Fantasy game again?

Nothing about this appeals to me in any way.

Unlike everyone else, I hope the combat in this game sucks.

As in, I hope it's all quicktime or Asura's Wrath style so you get an insane but potentially fun story that doesn't outstay its welcome. A huge explosion of pretty and awesome. But not more than 5 hours of it.

Did japanese people get mad there were prominent female characters in FFXIII or something?

Is the game set in a world populated only by bearded men and K-Pop boys?

Is this not the exact same thing from E3?

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I really dislike the way modern JRPG's are going. I don't get "real time" combat in them. I go to JRPG's for turn based combat, for hard grinding, and to get lost in a game for sometimes hundreds of hours..

I love the grind, I love the things that old school RPG's do, and it makes me sad to see so many developers getting away from that because it has become popular to do it.

Basically all I have left are Atlus games.

I'm pretty sure I've seen bits of this before, but it still looks really good to me. I'm interested, but I'd like to play it with the Japanese dialogue with English subs. I doubt it will come that way, but still, that's what I'd ask for.

That was legitimately impressive. I love that games are continue to impress me. Loved the crescendo at the end with the title card.
