A Closer Look at Final Fantasy XV's Combat

This is a good direction for Final Fantasy to move in, but I just hope it plays as well as it looks.

Sure, combining Kingdom Hearts with Shadow of the Colossus with Gears of War with Devil May Cry seems fantastic, but if and only if they pull it off.

People will still find a reason to complain about this. At least Patrick is a bit optimistic!

I have no idea what was happening, but that looked real impressive.

I really like the hyper-realistic looking anime characters. There's like next to no chance this is coming to PC, right? Neither is MGS? So yeah, there's no reason NOT to get a PS4 at launch because there's no way I can skip those games.

I sure hope the combat will be interesting. I'm getting near Asura's Wrath vibes from this one. Those are some classic FF monsters at least.

Final Fantasy is never afraid to innovate, except when it comes to writing characters. Here's hoping they break the cycle this time around.

I'm pretty sure this isn't a new trailer. I checked some other sites and searched on youtube, and all I found were pretty much identical E3 trailers. I wonder if they are actually going to show any more at TGS. Still though, with FFX/X-2HD, Theatrhythm Curtain Call, Lightning Returns FFXIII and this, there's probably at least one thing to be excited about for someone with even a slight interest in the series.

Regardless of any missteps in the series prior, I'm excited to see how this turns out.

The story seems real promising.

This game looks absolutely gorgeous, though I can't help but wonder how much if that shown is gameplay and how much of it is simply scripted. I recall the trailers leading up to FF XIII, they made the action look similairly engaging to this here game, what we ended up with was the first FF game that I didn't end up buying. (Played it with a friend for a good 10 hours, never want to touch it again.)

If they actually deliver on what's shown, I might just starting trusting the FF franchise again.

It looks really good, but it also looks like it'll probably be very linear like Uncharted. Great set pieces but possibly very scripted.

Well, shit. This looks pretty damn awesome. Hopefully, the final product is all that and a bag of chips though as long as it's not as bad as XIII was, it'll be okay in my book.

This and Kingdom Hearts 3 are the two games that are going to make me cave and get a PS4.

Some of this has the Bioshock-Infinite-preview-is-scripted feel to it. Looks too pretty and smooth. Hope it ends up looking like this. Also, is that guy teleporting or is the sword helping him? I have so many questions that will be answered with Japanese mumbo jumbo scifi science!

When exactly was the last time they innovated? The combat systems in teh games that aren't MMO's or 12 were all just further refinements of the same combat system they have been using since I was in grade school. The art always looks impressive, and the music is great, but innovative? I liked 12 because it was a departure from everything else they did, but then they went right back and made 13, which is about the worst one they ever made.

Yup, this is the same trailer shown at E3, but this time without English subtitles. I don't really get the point of why this was uploaded to begin with.

Combat does look cool, it's just a question of how well does it control.

The last final fantasy game I played was VI on the SNES. I may give this one a shot. Looks like god of war/DMC set in some final fantasy universe??

I'm just glad that Persona exists, or I would've given up on JRPGs as a whole. But then it's been a few years since a real new one of those has come out...

It looks very cinematic and pretty, but I have to wonder how much of that comes at the expense of player control and freedom of movement (more than a few of those areas looked like Final Fantasy XIII-esque 'hallway dungeons'). It's still too early to tell, but I certainly don't have as much faith in the series as I once did and the fact that this game has been in development since around the same time as XIII (i.e. dungeon and general progression design may be very similar) isn't helping.

I like the way it seems this game will play and all, but I sort of miss the older FF worlds that weren't just modern day with swords and monsters. Seems like all the newer FFs are super anime-looking people with swords for no apparent reason when dudes are running around with assault rifles and mechs.

Sad there wasn't really any new news to come out of TGS for this. This is the E3 footage, with like a few extra new seconds, from what I've heard. That's a bummer. Was hoping to get more actual info.

Every one of those characters looks either like a Korean pop star with a inflatable sword they got at the county fair or a Power Ranger villain. Final Fantasy needs to innovate itself and tone down these sorts of terrible designs.

You know, I really, really liked the "contemporary fantasy" look the earlier footage of the game had, as it's not a concept that gets used much in JRPGs, so I'm actually really bummed out to see be-robed mages, armoured knights, and that generic fantasy city surrounded by waterfalls. Oh well, maybe it'll still be good anyway.

Can SquareEnix brand these as 'Final Sci-Fi', or somesuch now, as the 'fantasy' in these games is surely dead.

I'm very interested in FFXV. After not liking FFXIII ( I played close to 10 hours and lost interest) I am going to need to see a lot more if I'm going to shell out another $60 on a FF game. But the combat looks really cool.

Not sure what to think of this. On the one hand this looks pretty cool.

On the other hand, I am cautious about games in development for very long and changing strategies because of it. This was supposed to be Versus XIII and was announced at the same time as FFXIII, which is ready to launch its third sequel. Originally it was supposed to launch after XIII on PS3. I've seen games with apparently troubled development go wrong many times.

Also, I just want to see more about it. I am excited in the sense that it seems like something new. I loved X, but the real time stuff of XII and XIII didn't appeal to me. Real time with menu's isn't something for me. I hope this will further develop in the direction they were going and just make it directly controllable to a point.

Curious to see more about how it actually plays.

I just hope that there's more exploration and that these scenes are just some of the set piece type stuff they wanna show off. Other than that it looks really cool.

Most of it was part of the E3 reveal. But the last, idk, around 30 seconds are new (and actual gameplay it seems). Watch it again, the graphics look considerably worse in that part.

And thus ends the hope for this being a technical masterpiece for PS 4 (at least for me). Might still be good, though. I'm still reminded of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII which I really enjoyed, so this might be a good action-RPG. But man, these captions about divine-seeing eyes have me worried that the story might devolve into the stupid JRPG-mysticism nonsense Square-Enix has been so 'good' at over the last few years.

I honestly hope this comes to PC down the line. It looks very impressive, and I like the look they are going with this time around.

Also, this still just kinda looks like an action game to me. And as someone who has never played a Final Fantasy game before, I'm all right with that. This game looks interesting.
