Apex Legends Is Out, So Let's Play Some Of That

This game is so much fun, it's actually amazing.

Is this game good for someone who has never played a battle royal yet?

@seemah: I've only played a bit of Fortnite and a couple matches of Black Ops: Blackout when the free trial was going, and I got 2nd place in my first match of Apex and I was teamed up with strangers.

I'm having a blast with this game. I'd rather play this than Blackout, at least for now.

It's really a shame that they removed all the good movement from Titanfall 2.

I'll give it a shot. It looks okay. I was never really grabbed by Fortnite and PUBG so this might not grab me either, especially if I can't divorce it from what I loved about Titanfall 2.

It looks good, but BR games aren't my style.

Can't help but feel disappointed that this is what we're getting instead of Titanfall 3.

Gun play just feels great and the little quality of life improvements over other BRs are smart and refreshing. Very surprised how much fun it is. The micro transactions dont feel too gross as it takes the R6siege approach to characters and skins are pretty achievable from grinding points. Good job Respawn!!

This paragraph perfectly describes this game better than any full-length article I've read. This game is BR from a team that did their goddamn research. Almost every single aspect of this game, from the UI, to the drops, to the "ping" system, just oozes polish. I fell out of love with the BR genre many months ago, and now I'm right back into it.

I was initially quite excited for this, then got real grumpy when I realized it was essentially replacing Titanfall, a series that boasted much more novel and exciting core mechanics that allowed Respawn to distinguish themselves from the competition.

Then I just decided that Titanfall 2 is a hell of a swan song (and hey, you never know) and that Apex Legends is actually a pretty great one-of-those. For as simplistic as some of these hero builds seem, I can't tell you how pivotal it was to pop smoke as Bangalore when sprinting toward a respawn point with two of my teammates' tags in my pocket, or how I lured opponents into a close-range fight with Gibraltar's dome shield and finished them with a shotgun. The only thing I worry about is how integral squad communication is with some of the abilities (like Wraith's "voices" of nearby hostile players, which only you can hear), and how patient players will have to be during the waiting period between being killed and being possibly brought back in (definitely agree with Ben on this).

This game feels great, the map is the best Battle Royale map yet, and even a second place finish felt very tense and satisfying. Guess I should just enjoy it (and rage on occasion, but mostly enjoy).

I'm glad people are enjoying this, but personally I'm sad we won't get a Titanfall 3, at least in the near future. BR games just really don't do it for me. I have a lot less time to play games than I used to, and the prospect of doing like 5-10 minutes of looting for every minute of shooting is just not something I can really get behind.

All this talk of Apex Legends, and Respawn it seems to be a constant that everyone really really enjoyed the Titanfall 2 campaign. I bought the game day one but never seemed to finish the campaign since I ended up spending all my time with the multiplayer, until the servers went dead as a door knob on PC since they released the game at the worst time imaginable. If anything Apex Legends got me to redownload and go back to Titanfall 2 since I do remember the game being super awesome but just never got to the parts people seem to really like about the campaign. Excited to go back and see how the story of BT wraps up!

I stayed up until 3:00am but I finally got a win (thanks to my teammates)!

I'm probably out of touch but between this, Fortnite and CoD I am real worried for the future of skins that don't look like total dogshit.

It's cool that they made a second map for blackout mode, but it's weird that they made you use a different launcher for it.

They made a Lawbreakers 2?!

The music lead up right before the character select is fantastic. The escalation of the music gave me goosebumps...for a fucking battle royale charcter select screen.

@seemah: I've barely played any BR, and this is a LOT to take in at first - choosing a place to drop, understanding all the loot you're picking up on the fly, paying attention to the circle, all the different character abilities. But I started to get the hang of it fairly quick.

Let's face it, Titanfall was a bit of a money pit for Respawn. While people seemed to love it (myself included) it just didn't perform that well. That said, Respawn made a smart choice with this game because they knew they could make money if they applied all of their knowledge to the hot new thing in the industry. The way I look at it, this game could create enough revenue to allow Respawn to make the Titanfall 3 everyone here seems to want without as much consequence.

@whalesex: I just played through TF2 as part of the Origin Vault and honestly between that and how this plays, it has me actually excited for their Star Wars game.

@jbick89: Once you get that whole drop/loot gameplay loop, you pretty much get battle royales.

But....this is fee to play too..

hopped into my first match about an hour after the game went live. within 1 minute a grown man on my team was already yelling about how i should be "ashamed of myself" for how bad i was playing and that i should stop playing video games for the rest of my life. suffice to say i will not be playing more of apex legends

Why do they insist on attempting hot drops when they're not at all competent at shooting or even looting quickly? Kinda infuriating.

I really wish that Counter-Strike BR took off. I much prefer smaller scale, where your basic equipment and get into the action instead of looting for 20 minutes.

@gram1124: Im telling you that you could mute or go into another match. On a MP game thats been out for an hour, yes its fucking stupid to be put off from a random asshole you had options to leave from. You've experienced nothing from me, other then saying thats stupid.

This is spot on. I'm a huge fan of the Titanfall campaigns, but the multiplayer didn't catch on in the way it needed to, especially from EA's perspective of "funding the Call of Duty guy(s)". This was a pragmatic business decision, and I'm finding it really fun so far. I personally think that this is not something Respawn decided to do instead of TF3, but perhaps the only game they were given the funding to make at all.

I won on my second try without shooting anything.

Titanfall 3 please!

Fortnite meets Overwatch just seems such a cynical concept. Apart from insisting on squads of 3 I don't see anything that innovative here.

I just read that one of the devs tweeted they'll do something with Titanfall in 2019 still, so can we stop talking about other games and just talk about this one? Especially since it's actually pretty good.

I was told pretty early on by 1 guy that I stole his revive on my teammate and should be ashamed of myself. Luckily, every other team of randoms have been super friendly and like 99% of the time played together fairly well even without mics on most of them. It's been a good experience so far, but the group nature definitely leads to the same online bad egg people sometimes. Sorry to hear you had such a bad first experience cause of that one terrible person.

glad to hear that the community is so welcoming. i don't know about you, but i play video games to have fun & not to get yelled at by strangers. guess this isn't the game for me, good riddance indeed.
