Getting this for sure, as someone who loved MW2's MP i can go for some smaller maps in BF3 to change things up.

So after the excellence that is Back to Karkand they release maps that belittle what Battlefield is all about? Seems like they are trying to appeal to the Call of Duty fanbase, I wonder how much EA influenced this decision.

Looks really sweet. I could see why some BF3 fans would be anti small maps but I could sure use some variation at this point. Looking forward to it.

Although I don't get how you could fit a jet fight in those corridors.

Additional bigger vehicle maps are coming in the next dlc. These maps could be fun, as long as they aren't just long narrow corridors. Gotta give players the opportunity to flank each other.

I know, Metro is the worst map in the game so let's release a whole map pack with maps like that. Sounds like a plan Jim.

This is actually what I wanted from BF3, and I'm going to pay for it, because I'm getting the best in infantry combat and hopefully maps that satisfy. Going through those offices in co-op or single-player is an amazing experience.

e: And yeah, that's not dubstep. That's not even close to the stuff used in the Syndicate trailer. Rembrandt your ears.

Is this still going to be 32 v 32 on PC or will they lower it to 16 v 16 or 12 v 12 for these maps? I hope they do, because Metro is such an awful map for a full BF 3 match, but I think smaller maps would be really awesome with smaller player count.

I don't play Battlefield for close quarters shootouts, but I guess this could be cool. I like the destruction within the environment. Also I'll now have more use for shotguns for once.

I play on PC and my only worry is there's no real way to cap play limit from map to map as far as I'm aware which means there's going to be servers out there with 64 players on a map that's only made to hold 16. It's going to be a god damn meat grinder even more than Metro already is.

Pretty sure 16 is the max for the new dlc, even on PC.

and others: the new maps will be 2-16 player, that's an 8 v 8 maximum. This will likely also take them out of the normal server rotation. Rundown of the DLC at the BF3 blog at this link: http://bf3blog.com/battlefield-3-close-quarters/

Oh, and another thing that might be interesting to know for those not actually playing BF3 - the choice to launch small infantry maps as the first DLC probably has a lot to do with actual demand. On the PC, Metro 24/7 servers are among the most popular servers out there. EA calculates that this will appeal to that demographic. Seeing how most people associate Battlefield with big maps and vehicles it might sound a bit paradoxical, but it has been this way since the days of BF2, when it was all Karkand 24/7 infantry only servers dominating the serverscape.

Coming to think of it, BF2 saw the same kind of DLC plan as well: they launched the "Special Forces" expansion first which also focused on infantry combat, followed by two more "traditional" expansions later - much like they are doing now, with "Close Quarters" this summer followed by "Armored Kill" during the fall and the yet-to-be-specified "End Game" around the holidays.

Personally I had preferred Armored Kill to come first buy hey, DICE and EA are probably trying to emulate the relatively successful plan for BF2, which I can't really blame from a business stance.

Yeah, you're right, most people I know (who play BF3) tend to stick to TDM and the Metro map. Personally I don't get why you'd do that to a game that's all about massive scale vehicular combat, but by the looks of it, the primary BF3 audience certainly seems to want it.
I for one would love it if they made some DLC that dropped the infantry part entirely and played more like BF 1943's Air Superiority mode or Codename Eagle (where there were more than enough planes on the maps for everyone on the team to grab one).

These are the exact opposite type of maps BF3 needs. The few close quarters maps that are already in BF3 are meat grinders. That isn't the type of action I come to BF3 for.

And the fact that Metro is one of the most popular maps shows folks care more about grinding experience to rank up than they do about gameplay or tactics. Who cares if it's no fun when you can make 15000+ XP per round just dropping ammo and spamming explosives, right?

I'd have to disagree with you. Yes Metro is seen by many as 'the worst map' in the game but not everyone thinks that. Metro offers an incredibly intense and frantic fight from the get go which many other maps just can't match. These close quaters maps will offer not only the intensity but will also offer something new with the verticality on a tighter scale then the much larger open maps. If you find yourself in a position where you won't enjoy these maps - then simply just don't purchase the DLC. I honestly think you'll be missing out though.

@Sooty: Yeah, they're only appealing to Battlefield players with every stock map in the game, and every future DLC pack. God forbid they mix it up a bit.

Hardly mixing it up, there's already maps that are largely focused on infantry and close quarters.

I hope they take note of the destruction Red Faction did 11 years ago, and implement that kind of wonderful destructibility when they do smaller maps. It was just wonderful to entrench yourself 20 meters into hillsides, or in the Office/Lobby map that looked suspiciously similar to the map they showed most of here. BF3 needs to focus more on the silliness that defined the series up to BF2.

@Sooty: Ok, why can't there be more? Maybe some of us like infantry combat? It's not like Caspian Border will cease to exist with the release of this map pack. Also, two more map packs after this game, both will have plenty of vehicle combat for you.

I'm glad that they are putting these types of maps out because it gives you more of a reason to use PDW's, SMG's and shotguns instead of playing with them in the broken TDM modes.

I am a big fan of Operation Metro too because of the variety of that map, so hopefuly these will build off of that. Big maps are good too but sometimes you need variety.

The battles never look this good (staged) on actual real player BF3. I can already see the multitude of servers adding these maps to their "no m320, no rockets, no explosive noob kills." It will be just like metro grinding.

I saw this, and all I saw was USAS USAS USAS USAS USAS USAS USAS USAS. Yeah, these maps are gonna suck until DICE either nerfs the USAS with frag rounds, or removes them completely.

@Nivash: Special Forces maps were all still set outdoor, were playable in 64 player modes with appropriate boundaries, and included vehicles. Not only that but SF had grappling hooks and zip lines, which also count as modes of transportation to me. I'm not sure SF is the right analogy for this.

More BF3 is a good thing, though the USAS with frag rounds will be a porblem for sure.

I have a guilty pleasure for Metro now, I used to hate it but...i find it incredibly fun to grind and I know I shouldn't. Then again leveling can take sooo fucking long in this game.

This. It better be reasonably priced for what it is, or I'll probably wait until there is an Origin sale. Yes, they exist, though in small doses...

This looks great. Some variety is needed in the maps and it looks like this will add it.
