Seems like this pack was made for the console crowd, and their predicament of have large maps and not enough players.

On PC, I couldn't be bothered buying this. Play Metro 64 players, and you'll quickly tire of the rocket/nade spam.

This is the reason I play Battlefield, for the tight, enclosed spaces with no vehicle gameplay.

@Sooty: I don't know, it's possibly unprecedented, but I don't know how you can call it out of place. Just because something hasn't been done before doesn't mean it can't work. And I think it does work.

I mean, the game has good gunplay and controls. There's 10 years of Battlefield games with great vehicle combat maps. What's so wrong with some close quarters stuff?

I don't know, I must be the only person who plays this game and loves infantry and air combat equally. If they want to give me either, I'm more than happy.

And for the record, I love Metro. 99% of the time, it dissolves into a clusterfuck of insanity, but I find that fun.

Maybe people take Battlefield too seriously. I always thought the point of this series WAS insanity, even if it's at your expense.

I'm not saying they're identical, "Close Encounters" for BF3 is obviously more limited in both space and scope. I'm certianly not arguing that the two are comparable in terms of gameplay - but you can't deny that Special Forces was obviously far more infantry-centered than the main game. We could argue the reason for why the two differ so much in actual gameplay, but my bet is that it is because ever since CoD 4, small team-based combat has become the norm for military shooters and this pulls Battlefield in that direction too. Another is that BF3 can arguably pull off CQB in a way that BF2 simply couldn't.

But my main point is that they fulfill the same role in the overall plan. There's an undeniable pattern here: release an infantry-focused expansion first, then two vehicle-centered DLCs second. Heck, even the timescale matches up. Special forces was released five months after BF2 with the two other expansions being released roughly three months spaced after that. For BF3 (not counting Karkand, since that was a special case) we have Close Quarters releasing six months after launch, and even though we don't have dates for the other two we should probably assume similar spacing, providing End Game hits before 2013.

This is the same company after all. I think this says a lot about how DICE views the franchise, and that they really do treat BF3 very similar to BF2, detractors be damned.

Price will be standard fare: 1200 MS Points or $15 American. http://www.enterbf3.com/

That buys you four new maps, "HD destruction" (whatever that means) and 10 new guns. Oh, and some new assignments and tasks if you consider that actual added value.

If that's overpriced is obviously open to discussion, but I guess you at least get more guns and not merely new maps like CoD. Not that it's even easy to compare the two now that CoD locks you in with the "ELITE premium" plan for $50 but if memory serves me $15 was what you payed for the MW2 map packs back in the day.

That seems to be the amount the market has settled for. Make of that what you wish, but it's evidently profitable.

SF was also half-way stand alone. It had a separate exe and servers were unable to mix regular BF2 maps (or booster maps) and SF without completely restarting their clients. The other BF2 addons behaved as they should. This tells me there was no real overall plan when they went through this for BF2.

Now since this pack seems to be limited to 16 total players, it doesn't seem likely any servers running proper full sized BF3 modes would have these maps in their rotation regardless of the hypothetical ability to do so. So I suppose if you meant that almost nobody will be playing this pack more than a few months after release, then yes this has SF written all over it.

Again, I speak from the PC perspective. Most of the issues people seem to have with this pack don't really affect console players as much with their already size limited maps and focus on matchmaking. I'm sure this pack will have much longer legs on those platforms.

If it's really 1200 points, I'm out. I won't pay 15 dollars for a map pack, especially one with only 4 maps. I guess that's what the market decided is "fair." Apparently I'm not the market.

Not gonna make a big deal about this, but close quarters maps are the last thing I want for Battlefield. I play on PC, and playing Metro with that many people is awful. I'll wait for the next pack I guess!

This is everything Battlefield isn't. Console players will probably love it though.

Fine with me as its something to change the pace. And also there are two other packs that fit the more traditional battlefield layout.

Op Metro is a "meat grinder" because it has 64 players. With a smaller playercount it plays fine as will these maps

This is actually what I wanted from BF3, and I'm going to pay for it, because I'm getting the best in infantry combat and hopefully maps that satisfy. Going through those offices in co-op or single-player is an amazing experience. e: And yeah, that's not dubstep. That's not even close to the stuff used in the Syndicate trailer. Rembrandt your ears.

Agreed. The stuff in Paris is really impressive in SP and CO-OP

I think the truest Battlefield fan is a player who enjoys and is successful on all maps, with all vehicles, with all weapon types, all game modes, and all kits. (But screw squad rush)

Variety is the spice of life, yeah? Don't worry, by the end of these expansion packs it'll be like 7 relatively compact maps (these 4 + Bazaar, Metro, and Seine, with Metro being the only one that is actually infantry only in the base pack) and 18 regular maps (the original 6 + Karkand's 4 and assuming 4 for the following two packs)

Something pretty amazing about a game that can do vehicle warfare and large battlefields like ARMA and yet do amazing close quarters gameplay like Call of Duty. I'm gonna find something to love in every map, and ain't nobody is gonna stop me!

I like the idea of this map pack but I know this is just going to dissolve into autoshotgun spam, noob tube spam, and claymore spam.

Because I looove playing Operation Metro all the time so what I need is a DLC that's just like that, but the map size is even smaller?

As one of the few who actually plays this on a console, let me assure you guys Metro is just as much of a shitshow even with a lesser player count.

Edit: Just watched the video again, gotta say it actually looks more promising than just more Metro. Has more of a CoD "rats in a maze" feel to the layouts it looks like, as opposed to Metro's head-on "frontline" approach. CoD with destructible environments could be interesting, and I like the condo theme on one of the maps, but you know... USAS...

Seems like a lot of people agree; close-quarters maps are a let down in multiplayer, especially Conquest. I have to back out every time Metro comes up, it's unbearable.

The reasons I enjoy this game are tightly tied to long-lives and concurrent air/land/sea/infantry combat.

Strange that all the players in that video appear to be shooting bullets directly at the enemy.

In actual fact these maps will be comprised of nothing but grenades, grenade launchers, rocket launchers and explosive shotgun rounds. Anyone who's played a single round of Operation Metro can attest to that.

I'm betting these maps were just a lot easier to crank out than the large scale open maps loved by the majority of the community.

Hell yeah, sometimes I really get fed up with vehicle combat. Some infantry only maps to mix it up will be epic.

Thats why 80% of servers that play Metro here in Asia just ban the use of the USAS and most explosive weaps.

I saw this, and all I saw was USAS USAS USAS USAS USAS USAS USAS USAS. Yeah, these maps are gonna suck until DICE either nerfs the USAS with frag rounds, or removes them completely.

They're nerfing it completely in the next update. Slowing down the rate of fire on the frag version of the USAS, because apparently it's not supposed to go that fast with them.

DICE drops an exploit map in the game, sees people madly play it for the exploit, calls it Telemetry and says that's what people enjoy playing, creates more of that kind of map.

What about something different? Like a real soldier recommending the game and the maps.
