More prototype i guess.

EDIT:I dunno. The first one left such a bad taste in my mouth by the end of it. I like how they address how there were like 5+ more dudes and now you can "dodge" great. Does that still mean those 5 dudes still home in on you with every attack no matter what while your health meter you upgraded to have more health but never regenerated all the way up still be a major factor...

I'm going to go with the "fool me once" advice with this one this time.

I'm still not convinced that another Prototype is what the world needs.

I love how everything they're saying is pretty much a direct representation of how combat in Batman: Arkham City works but watching the actual video footage just proves the contrary

@zityz I can't parse your comment there, could you rephrase it?

I liked Prototype very much.  The mechanics as they were.
They became quiet in after only a short time.

Engaging multiple enemies was fun,
running away over house walls,  trying
to get space between you and them,
to get back to strength again.

I'm afraid, from the sound of this,
 they may dumb it down.

It seems they are adopting some of the Batman combat mechanics into Prototype.

Which is fucking great, since I love both games!

@zityz: You and I must have had the exact same experience playing that game. I really wanted to like Prototype, but it was just so freaking frustrating to play. I didn't even finish it, I got stuck on this particular part that, for the life of me, I couldn't figure out. I eventually just sold it out of spite.

Here's hoping this one will be good, but I'll wait for reviews before even thinking about playing it.

Prototype got progressively miserable as you kept playing. Enemies got way too strong, could soak up way too much damage, would rapid fire rockets... basically this trailer seems to address absolutely none of those issues and make the beginning look a lot prettier, for lack of a better word.

Honestly I feel as though Prototype put forth an amazing effort to really make you feel like you were a bad ass. And at it's core from the first thing the dude said ... that's what it's all about. It's wasn't about finesse in the first game, it was about smashing as much shit that looked cool to smash up, as fast as possible, and making it fun to do over and over again with some story elements thrown in. And to be honest ... prototype was the one of the only stories I played last year, beginning to end, that actually made some kind of sense and kept me somewhat engaged, if I wanted it to. If you didn't finish Prototype ... it's almost not worth commenting. The late game powers and situations feel pretty epic and that's what's going to bring most of us back. They have a real opportunity to make this game something more than what it was last year, and for that ... I'm jacked to see what they do here.

To an extent I feel the same. I'm glad they've at least acknowledged that getting mobbed by 5 hunters at once in the first game was fucking awful & happened far to often, but I think the deciding factor for me as to whether I'll take an interest in Prototype 2 is if it turns out to be a bunch of super thoughtless mini-games tied together with repetitive story missions.

I never want to play another Race side mission in an open world game again.

Since Arkham Asylum I felt that a lot of beat 'em ups should just adopt the awesome free flow combat system they used, but watching this video made me feel weird like they're patting themselves on the back for identifying and improving upon a problem that Batman: AA solved. Not saying games shouldn't iterate off each other.

If I'm not playing as Alex Mercer I'm not interested. Maybe Prototype 3.

I think the major issue the first game had was just giving you too much from the get go. The pacing was almost non existent. I had fun running around and fighting baddies but early on you're already so powerful that the only option left is to throw more and more at you. When that more of everything approach wasn't really slowing you down anymore cause soldiers were a pushover the entire city gets infected and every place you go theres a ton of hostiles on you and now those mutants take a ton of damage before dying. The power trip fantasy ends when you have to use a dozen of your super powerful awesome moves to take down on baddie.

Maybe the zones they're introducing in this one will alleviate those issues a bit. I enjoyed the first game as much as you could enjoy it and the story was actually pretty clever. At the time it was going head to head with inFamous and despite the latter getting the better reviews I thought the plot in inFamous was just completely garbage. They both had their share of boring repetition as well.

I think to make Prototype 2 fun for me they'd have to completely scale it back and bring the gameplay down to a level you can identify with on some scale. From all the previews I don't think they're doing that though.

I'm still hopeful for this game despite the conspicuous ALPHA watermark. It seems like they at least realize that the combat in the first game had some serious problems and I imagine that they're working towards improving it. The only issue that the game will be left with is a deathly serious story line that is not going to mesh very well with the ridiculous over the top nature of this insane sandbox of destruction. I'm still looking forward to it even if this whole behind the scenes marketing thing makes them look desperate for attention.

I had fun with Prototype when I rented it for a week or two. I never got all the hate for the first game, especially compared to Infamous. I won't be buying this one day one but when it's $30-$40 I'll pick it up. Also, if they want to make the combat awesome they should just have people in a room reverse engineering Bayonetta.

@Ori said:

No.

  • The story of both games is equally shite except Infamous pushes it's story more.
  • Both suffer from horrible repetitive mission structure
  • Prototype's combat gets better way quicker... assuming Infamous ever got good, I deleted it after about 4 or 5 hours of play.
  • Traversing the environment is way better in Prototype since you don't have to hammer the A button constantly just to climb a building.

Everything is way more fluid and built for running around and having fun. I don't know what Prototype is built for. Being laborious and unfun at every opportunity is the only thing I could come up with. Infamous was a rare game that I got for free and still felt like I got jipped.

For the most part i agree with this. The start of the game was really fun but when they started rolling 5 hunters on you i felt the combat broke. There was no true way of countering their actions, no stun locks, blocks, or evades work 100% of the time.

You had to just hammer away at them or run like hell to distance yourself and then hammer away some more. It sucked all the fun away from being powerful and for the most part all the end bosses was very much the same way.

If what they said in the trailer is true that they built the combat so you can block and evade hunters or (big enemies) with skillful play then that is a step in the right direction.

I really enjoyed Prototype for what it was, so I hope they deliver on improving the combat and giving it a little more depth. The very mention of a dismemberment system has me very intrigued, I wish they had said more about that.

@Branthog: 1. prototype sold 2 million copies worldwide. 2. the first game was good, but very flawed and got old quick, so there was a lot of room for improvement. now you know why they are making a sequel. booyah!
