Dreaming Big With Media Molecule!

Sometimes I dream that all my teeth fall out and I am chewing on them.

Haven't even started this but Brad's smile in the thumbnail is cheering me up.

Yes, more Dreams content! I haven't had the time to dive in on the tools, but some of the content people already provided is crazy.

I didn't know Abbie Heppe went to Media Molecule! She was super rad at G4 back in the day! I met her at E3 2013 after she announced Titanfall at E3 and she was pretty rad!

have not had time to watch the video yet, so don't know what was discussed. do we know if the planned psvr implementation for this game is just to have a better way to sculpt and create things, or is there going to be tools added so that one can create a game/experience that is playable in vr?

I went to a Media Molecule panel at Pax Melbourne, seem like a cool group of people.

@madmatt213. i really hope this has legs too. seems really robust, much more so than little big planet, and that was around and supported for quite some time. i hope that it doesn't end up being another project spark, although i kind of liked that one. this seems more intuitive and has way more to offer than spark did , and people are already creating some ridiculous content, so i see a good future for this.

Watching John from MM do sculpting that quickly is blowing my mind.

The hardest part about Dreams and this video is these previews make it look easy in a very "Draw the rest of the fucking owl." kind of way. These tools are very robust, but they can be very finicky and cumbersome at times in my experience, and like anything require an immense amount of patience, time, and practice to learn. At a certain point, what's my incentive to learn this tool over something like unity? Something with transferrable, real world skills.

@timeshero: That is a really good point. I'm guessing that loads of grown-ups will be in that boat. But the loads of players not quite kids, not quite adults will have access to tools and a community that they wouldn't normally have (I know - the internet at all the 2d makers etc. But still). This thing hopefully will spawn game-devs a plenty. Or at least do what Mario-paint did for me, getting a taste - inspire whats possible later in life :)

I just don't see the appeal of spending time making a project in Dreams when that time could be better served making something in UE4, Unity and Blender, etc.

@shtinky: I get that. And tools are different. But saying that you're wasting time learning something here that doesn't transfer is kinda limited. Programming is usually a fight over language until a curtain level where the language is chosen basen on the task because you know the similarities and differences. You don't just use one thing. Most of what I've seen done in Dreams so far is easily transferable.

Was going to say, interesting to see her again. She was also on the E3 streams when Titanfall was coming out (I guess she worked at Respawn at the time).

Would like to see Tina Sanchez on GB content sometime. Used to love her (and pretty much everyone) at 1UP back in the day, and now she's a producer on Apex Legends. Cool to see old media favorites again, given so many of my favorites from the G4/1UP days are gone or behind the scenes.

Yah to echo what a lot of people have been saying, this all looks amazing but also not nearly as easy as it would assume. When they showed that lovingly crafted pool game and Brad asked about the physics, the guy says "you can put as much as you want into it" but like dude.. how much is that? I doubt you just toggle "pool physics" in a dropdown. For a person like myself that has never even touched unity or Unreal, or basically made any game ever.. Dreams seems equally intimidating.

This is absolutely awesome.

My PS4 is rapidly turning into the Dreams Machine. The creation tools are fantastic. I've been trying to sculpt a bust of my daughter, and although she looks like a gremlin nightmare creature at the moment, I've been having a blast, and have given me a creative outlook that isn't Javascript, which is ace. I'm very surprised at how well using a regular controller works, even though it's a bit finicky.

I can see spending a long time using this feature set. I'd love to see people be able to release commercial projects one day. In any case, I couldn't recommend this game enough.

This product is a complete marvel.

It's cool to see a good fun game after sitting through 2 hours of borderlands 3 content earlier today. The game looks absolutely amazing which is something I never thought I'd say about a Borderlands game but this just looks different and refreshing from something we keep seeing over and over. I was actually thinking it wouldn't stand a chance compared to Rage 2 but they actually are making a good single player shooter. I wish they would go back and remake DNF since they owe it to the people who waited 10+ years for that POS.

This just looks so incredibly joyful though. I hope they get a chance to invite the people in this video back for a future session to go through some other creations and create some more stuff because it was a real great video.

That speed of creation is just mind-blowing. Can't wait to try!
