E3 2016: You Got a Little Bullet Hell in My RPG in NieR: Automata

There was bullet hell in the first game, it was pretty awesome.

Bullet hell is a key aspect of Nier, in the first game as well.
Its amazing.

That camera slowly moving up to an over-head view was pretty sweet. And that music! Color me interested in this one.

That was rad as fuck.

Maybe I should go play the first Nier?

Holy hell I am way more interested in that now.

This was the one cool thing gameplay-wise in the first Nier. Good to see that Platinum made the rest of the game look cool as shit too.

Time to get Nier out of the shrink wrap, I guess. Really interested in this series now after watching that.

The whole Square Enix Presents bit was amazing. I didn't expect them to show off so much. Can't stop watching that boss battle just so I can hear the song again.

Did you guys see THAT?! Dear lord the wonderful Bayonetta and Nier memories are colliding and melting together in my mind. The awesome combat and cool perspective changes combined with weird bullet-hell platforming elements in a boss fight.

Man this looks so good. I'm so happy I stuck it out with Nier.

The original had the ball and laser thing too. Nothing new. Looking good.

It seems like the camera is differnet. It pulls out farther.

This appears to be done by the "good" Platinum Games!

The Neir boss combat was great. The diorama inside stuff looked great. And the story was interesting, and involved. But the regular combat wasn't that great, and it often felt like a choir, rather then the main game-play mechanic.

Im looking foreword to this, I just hope it makes generic combat better, and more varied.

Edit: Also the NG+ Stuff was awesome.

To the people thinking they should play the first NieR: The very first dungeon thing you do is awful, and then it gets fantastic after that.

Nier looks a lot more fun than I was expecting

I'd like to play this, but am afraid that I'd have to play it three or more time to 'get' it all.

The first Nier is an amazing game, and worth beating four times (although harvesting a legendary flower was probably less worth it). You bet your butt I'm pleased that this game is coming.

The soundtrack has a lot to live up to. What I'm hearing here is very promising, though!

Yeah, I'm in agreement with the crowd--that looks incredible. I bought Nier a while ago because I heard so many good things, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. I really should move it to the top of the queue.

Also, @North6, I don't think it's available digitally, but you can get a new physical copy off Amazon relatively cheaply (about $20). That very often isn't the case with well-liked but poor selling cult favorites.

I don't know why but, that running animation is sooo satisfying. Not that the other animations aren't though.

@buzz_clik: I skipped ahead slightly to get to the combat/avoid the cutscene. The music made me incredibly giddy, it sounds right at home with the incredible soundtrack from the first.

Hype level steadily rising. Like the music in this fight.

Enemy designs/music and a shitload of bullets, yes.

Man, Platinum Games is just unstoppable, isn't it. If they do something, they get it right. How many of their games have been anything less than awesome up until now?

"Platinum Games: We Ys Now" would probably be a better tagline.

Korra is still decent by general standards. TMNT and star fox tough, ugh.

It feels like Platinum is just doing way to much games for too little people. They need to slow down and take their time again like they did to create masterpieces like Bayonetta, wonderful 101 and Godhand.

Yeah, Nier has a similar looking combat. Kinda. In the sense that you play that game, and look at this game, and go "yeah, I see the iteration here". But this game is much smoother looking. Just that framerate. If they can keep this at a solid 60, shit. Hell, a solid 30 would be a step up from Nier. I love that game, but man. That game could play rough as HELL!

That all said, I hope that this isn't all that your robot buddy can do. One of the things I liked a lot about Nier stylistically was its magic design. Also, your floating robot buddy better talk. Grimoire Weiss was probably 80% of the reason to play that first game.
