Is this just a rebranding of Escape from Tarkov?

In development for several months, Focus Home Interactive and Vostok Games – the developing team behind the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise – chose the annual press event “Le What’s Next de Focus” taking place in Paris on February 7-8, to unveil Fear The Wolves...

@mbr2: No, this is made by Vostok Games - the remaining people from GSC who've been making Survarium since like 2013 but kind a unsucessful.

Escape from Tarkov is completely different people.

Also - this looks terrible but man I'm a fan of STALKER, so I'm gonna try this anyway.

Not only did that look bad, it looked fake and scripted. The movement speed was ridiculous... also that just looks like escape from tarkov... i bet it'll hit that niche audience though...

It is absolutely insane the number of times people have tried to leverage that STALKER legacy to promote their own projects. I love STALKER, but it was a pretty niche, and by now, an old fucking game.

So many people from GSC have scattered to the winds that I don't even know what "people behind STALKER" even means. I still don't believe GSC is making STALKER 2.

This trailer reminds me of the tense battles described in the stalker books, then again vostok has survarium right now and that game is kinda neat (but rife with pay to win bs).

Curious, yet bolt throwing distance for this one, dont want my hopes up quite yet.

@minipato: Yeah, it's difficult to think that a proper STALKER game will ever be made again. I loved those games - sure, they're old by now, but they did so many interesting things that I haven't really seen since. I guess "the people behind STALKER" are still out there, but so much has happened in the last 10 years that a hope of any of them - those truly responsible for these games - coming together for a fourth one is more than wishful thinking.

I really look forward to the day when the snake starts eating its own tail and mods start taking these fucking battle royale games and turn them into single-player campaigns.

I have a feeling the wolves are just the circle equivalent, but I think that a BR game that has a lot of environmental threats would be pretty neat. Especially if those threats are various anomalies and monsters; not just wolves.

I assume this was inspired by the documentary done by one Drew Scanlon on the Puppies of Chernobyl.

PUBG already did the soviet bloc aesthetic. If you're gonna make yet another battle royale you could at least change up the look and setting.

The last multiplayer shooter from the “people behind STALKER,” was total garbage.

This is also a very obvious hand animated trailer intended to look like gameplay...

@relkin: There was also some radiation stuff in there, too, judging by the Geiger counter sound effect. They could do some interesting stuff with a randomized radioactive zone where you have a better chance of finding good gear, but you need the gas mask and maybe a hazmat suit to get to it. Something like that? Or maybe if an enemy is hiding around an old gas tank, you can shoot it and it explodes. Environmental kills in video games are fun!

So once I got past my cynicism for the Killzone 2 -esque trailer, all things Battle Royale, (and, really, the technical states in which the Stalker games were released), I felt this could have some interesting turns. The world is one I would want to return to, and if the stuff they're hinting at comes through; like packs of mutant wolves messing with the power balance or being able to flank unprotected players from within radiation zones if you have hazmat suits? I might be willing to try this with friends.

@bladeofcreation: If they actually end up doing any of that in a meaningful way, it would pretty firmly separate this from the pack; distinguishing itself from other BR games.

I'm a bit worried all of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R stuff is just set dressing, though. Looking forward to seeing something more substantial from this game.

Stalker is a big blind spot for me, I've tried to play it multiple times and just couldn't, I think my last save is at a new zone load point and being immediately gunned down because you're followed between zones, and I'd aggroed some enemies in the previous zone.

Couldn't watch this in full screen. Maybe it's just me but... jikes. That FOV needs to be like doubled.

STALKER is all about exploring the atmosphere and isolation of the Zone. I don't truck with any of these attempts to shoehorn loud, guns-blazing multiplayer into the setting.

So uh, I used to feel the exact same way until I played pubg and realized the genre has a lot of potential. Over standard team deathmatch with friends anyway.

Yeah, I played PUBG as well and really enjoyed it for a while, but eventually got a bit tired of it. I guess what rubs me the wrong way is that I'd much rather have a new STALKER single player FPS than a STALKER-like battle royale. But I realize that if they weren't making this game, they wouldn't necessarily be making a new STALKER.

I reckon, though, that if they draw inspiration from STALKER for this game, it could prove different than many of the BR offerings of today. As suggested, they could include radiation as smaller areas that you cannot go without proper equipment and possibly provide the mechanic in which the player area is increasingly limited over a round; it would be cool if they looked at how gas masks work in Metro 2033, in the sense that they limit your view and require upkeep. Like the video hinted, they could have wildlife, mutants and NPCs that pose a threat, but also be hunted for crafting materials and gear. Rare artifacts could provide both minor and major stat upgrades and apply unique abilities.

There are few games that you can take a few weeks away from and jump right back in with friends without spending hours remembering how to play the game or reading patch notes. This is where borderlands and diablo fail, for example. Pubg actually manages to be interesting and engaging enough that a tighter game with a few game modes, slightly smaller maps, some progression, and a little less counterstrike jank would count as a breath of fresh air. Stirring in some Metro/Stalker dna is a huge bonus as long as they get the aiming tighter and add hitmarkers or beeps.
