Is it a standalone thing like FarCry 3: Blood Dragon? or will it require the original game?

Went on the review of the immortal ryan davis and bought xcom based on his review . and its one of my favorite games of all time.

I got a really strong Pacific Rim vibe from the latter half of that trailer.

And I'm totally okay with that.

Stoked for this. Here's hoping they do a better job with the story than Enemy Unknown. I feel bad that I need to take away my soldiers' humanity just so I can have badass cyborgs to serve me. Already a darker twist and puts a few new meanings to the Enemy Within moniker.

My favorite part of PAX Prime was seeing this get demoed, trying to take a picture, and almost being rushed out.

Spoiler! The mech does 12 damage while punching, and red shirt rookies still die.

The standalone 40 dollar version includes all content from the original XCOM: Enemy Unkown. Just to be clear.

Everytime I see the robot punching scene at the end I wish it was called X-Com: Mech Puncher. I'm really excited about this as it seems like they are actually listening to fan feedback. In the dumptruck they did one of the very first things they talk about is how they changed the voices so that everyone doesn't talk american since it's supposed to be a global initiative. Which was a major annoyance to myself and many others. It sucks that they couldn't redo the VO in english with regional accents instead it going to be the VO packs from that region, but it's understandable given the work it would have taken to do it properly.

I may be wrong, but I recall hearing somewhere, I think it was in the dumptruck interview on the site, that it's just the same game/story as before with new maps and all this new stuff thrown in on top of it.

looks sick! I adore the original game and I didn't think the new one surpassed it really (all though great game in its own right), but this feature is something the old game didn't have, so I am definitely going to give the new x-com another go.

it is, it is an expansion for the game like the Civ expansions, they are just adding new systems/units to the base X-COM game.

I haven't been keeping up with the latest X-Com developments so does anyone know if there are plans to rejigger to the game so you can actually sneak up on the all-seeing enemy? I would love to be able to ambush an alien patrol within a combat map.

Yes, Firaxis, it HAS been a long time since I booted up XCOM. Good point, good point.

There's a stealth suit that allows you to encounter enemies without triggering their "run for cover" free movement already in the game. Unfortunately, that's probably all there will be.

So is this a stand alone expansion where I don't need Xcom or can I buy this digitally like it's Xcom DLC?

Too bad. I thought they'd come up with some kind of a narrative though I guess that's not the case. But more upgrades and enemy types can only make the core experience better right?

Having just beat XCOM: Enemy Unknown last night i am super hyped for this.

The mech suit with a power fist seems a little hokey for the XCOM universe but hey whatever as long as it's fun to play.

I think it's less of a "suit" more of a Deus Ex-style "replace my body parts with large mechanical limbs". To me, sacrificing some humanity to fight off the alien threat is fittingly grim for XCOM. It's probably playing-off of the original Gollop Chamber mechanics of choosing soldiers to permanently convert into specialized units.

I'm a fan of Enemy Unknown. Almost 300 hours put into the game. Beat it on every difficulty in Ironman, messing around with Second Wave... it's great. It's the best game I've played this generation. I am super excited for this and so is everyone else on the official forums.

Actually, they changed some of Dr. Shen's lines in this because it otherwise wouldn't work. Instead of him being fiercely opposed to changes, he now says something like they should avoid it using it unless they have no other option.

Ryan would have loved more Xcom =(
