Epic Gets Into the MOBA Business with Paragon

I liked what I played of SMITE, so I'm definitely interested in seeing another 3rd person one of these games.

I'm not one of those people that seems to want to cause bodily harm to themselves and everyone around them when they even hear the word "MOBA" uttered in their presence so this looks pretty alright so far.

This looks EPIC!

Yea but SMITE doesn't have any verticality, and in all honesty, it's just a MOBA with a third-person camera. Paragon looks to be a third-person shooter with MOBA elements in it (Creeps, Towers, Lanes, Jungle, Abilities).

When I first heard of this game and saw some trailer I kinda thought it was an arena shooter.

I'm pretty sure I saw a Dog in a Robot Suit somewhere during one of the Paragon trailers.

This looks potentially interesting, that new engine sure is pretty.

I first heard of this game in my RRS feed yesterday and I was immediately disappointed because everyone and their mother seems to be making some sort of shooter/MOBA hybrid.

Then I watched the trailer.

And, holy shit, I am all the way on board with this.

I think this probably makes sense for Epic. They've always been good at multiplayer stuff.

I just kinda wish there was more creativity coming out of big studios rather than MOBAs and Open World everything, soon we'll have open world MOBAs.

Might give this one a shot. Not really at all in to MOBA's but this looked different enough that I might stick my toes in a little bit.

That UE4 sure is looking damn good though.

(By the way, whatever happened to Fortnite? It seems like no one has said anything about that game for quite some time.)

It's still in development. The alpha currently is open (to all participants) 24/7 now, so no more weekend beta testing. Can't say too much about it because of NDA, but it has solid gameplay. Think of Orcs Must Die, but more open and more customizable.

Seems like a very hard market break into, Moba scene seems pretty secure with the two giants LOL and DOTA at the top and the others fighting for 3rd position.

Who could POSSIBLY give a fuck.

After such an underwhelming trailer from a studio that seems to have means, I don't expect any real fucks to be given.

If it's a 3rd person shooter first and a moba second, I'd be interested in trying it out.

This looks like a SMOBA? (shooter-MOMBA) not a MOMBA. Would compete more with Battleborn and Overwatch than Dota and LoL.

I miss Monday Night Combat.

between free Shadow Complex this month and this game, at least Epic is giving people reasons to fire up their game launcher.

Is it required by law at this point for every MOBA to have a completely forgettable name?

This looks like it could be really cool. I've been having a blast with Overwatch, which has a little bit of MOBA vibe..and I could see this game being a TON of fun if there's enough class variety, variance and strategic team game play.

@luck702: I think that some of these games anymore, are being created to appeal everywhere in the world, so we're seeing a certain kind of vague generic-ness that is easy to port into different languages. 'Twin Blast' is one characters name in this, which I can see them doing so that it will translate into asian languages much easier than something like 'Marcus'.

I love Gears of War and I love Dota and if anyone was going to make a 3rd-person combination of the two then I'm glad it's going to be EPIC.

I'm probably still not going to ever play it, though.

Mobas are a hot contender for the GOTY2k16 category PLEASE STOP.

Then again, the problem will solve itself since they have the life expectancy of a fruit fly. It says a lot about the market demand when even Blizzard's moba flopped.

I'd put money on this being one of the games on esport Olympus in the future. This looks so distinct, and crazy intricate.

The look of the map reminds me of the outdoor Onslaught map in Unreal Tournament 2k4.

mmmm I cant wait to play as and or spend lots of money on these iconic and totally memorable characters. Epic with the fresh marketing strats, aiming at that elusive crowd who don't want to play MOBAs but secretly really want to play a MOBA.

Monday Combat, the highly underrated third-person console MOBA, was awesome. I am totally down for another good version of that (not a fan of Smite at all). I hope this delivers.
