Monster Hunter Monday

Please make this a recurring segment :). I <3 Jason and hunting monsters.

They really used Cryengine to the fullest here. I mean, some games use it well (Crysis for starters lol) but this looks great both graphically and art wise with the world building and what not. Also the physics of everything seems super on point.

As someone who's never played a MH game, I can't wait for this to hit PC now. Dauntless is still something I want to get into badly - but getting into the alpha/beta for that is super hard unless you buy a founders pack and I'd rather not since I don't know if I'll like the actual gameplay etc. Still, MHW looks terrific and I really, really love the music as well. And man, that food is legit!

Yes, thanks Jason. I hope this becomes a weekly thing. Assemble a crew of hunters and take on the fiercest predators... Or accidentally hit each other over and over again. Either way works for me.

@opethrockr55: Whoa, that's even more impressive. Shocked that MHW is using MT Framework. It looks amazing for that engine. They've must have gutted the engine yet again after some of the recent games using it. Neato :)

One of my friends wants me to get into monster hunter and I think Im gonna get this game. I didnt want to wait so I bought monster hunter 4 ultimate which was very cheap at twelve dollars on the 3ds. I cant wait till release!!

A little weird that Jason decided to use the same preset character and cat that I have been using all weekend, but nice hunting! So excited for the actual game!

I'm guessing you meant to say "another day" and not "an other day" in the video description.

I've never played a monster hunter game, never even been interested, but this looks kind of cool - and it's really nice to have a Jason stream!

@kasseth: Unfortunately, World will not have the biggest roster of the series (confirmed by the devs, I think in their Game Informer quick fire interview) at launch, mainly because Cross ("Generations" stateside) and its sequel Double Cross was meant to be a celebration of sorts of the series 10 year anniversary and thus had an insanely large roster of monsters.

But to add to everyone helping out @humanity, it's also been confirmed that World will continue the series tradition of adding new monsters and quests post-launch as free DLC. These DLC quests often come with silly premises or materials for special collaboration gear (one such quest from a few titles back gave players the materials to craft Big Boss and The Boss equipment from the Metal Gear series), and provide fun reasons to keep coming back to the game.

@escapevelocity: @mustachio: @imhungry: @kasseth: Thanks everyone! IT seems this is more of a game for gameplay sake type of deal, which is not a bad thing if you're in the mood for that and have the time and perseverance to go at it. I'll definitely keep this game on my radar.

Just in case Ben happens to read this, there IS a timer in the game in the upper-left corner of the screen! It doesn't give you down-to-the-second accuracy, but I think they keep it fuzzy to build tension.

@syphous: Monster Hunter World has a bunch of great tutorials for every weapon, and a full fighting game style training mode for testing stuff out. There's also a great learning ramp in the game now, with the guild lady talking to you and helping you figure stuff out.

The Monster Hunter community is super friendly, and there's a GB Monster Hunter community that is welcoming to newcomers too!

I played the beta on the PS4 and man... I am so hyped for this game. Can't wait for it to release! Granted I'll be playing it on PC so it'll be a few months after the consoles. :\

Holy smokes, this looks just as amazingly boring as MH games usually come off. I'm afraid o just have to admit that despite having respect for these things for building up a huge fan base, I'm just never going to understand or enjoy it.

Glad that fans of the series seem to really like this one though, and if it brings new people to the series, good on it. There should always be a video game for everyone. But let me throw my hat in the "please don't fill up a feature spot with more playing of this game" camp. If Murder Island got stale, I can't imagine what watching an hour plus of this every week would do.

I'm not even a Monster Hunter fan but I think it's rad that Jason is such a passionate fan of the series. He works hard on the site, contributes to the podcast, runs Extra Life streams, and still has the time and energy to cover new Monster Hunter games all on his own if need be. Major kudos to Mr. Oestreicher.

As a PC gamer, this is gonna be the first MH I play. Looks really good, cant wait!
