Hope they learned from the last game. Parts of it were good, most of it was crap

Been seeing a lot of conflicting reports on the new hero's name. I heard 'James Heller' when I watched the ad and Joystiq seemed to agree, but Kotaku and IGN reported it's 'James Allen'. What do you think?

Also, I think this is a great way to follow up the first game. I really like the idea of controlling someone who has been effected by Mercer's actions because Mercer's story is largely over - he's completed his goals and he's on the run, it'd be hard to make him the (anti)hero again unless they were going to give up on story entirely and just have you kill the army for 8 hours.

I'm game for more Prototype, but I don't like that what they've shown looks almost exactly like the current game.   2012 is quite a ways off, so hopefully that will change.

Can't be worse than the first one I guess. Few games were last year.

If they were to change the side missions to something more meaningful than score attack variants I might be interested in playing this.  How well did the first one sell?

Looks like the first one but with somewhat higher details on the textures and lighting. Which is what I dreaded when I first heard of Prototype 2 being a thing. Still far from a bad game of course..

I like that we have a gruff-talking black guy instead of a gruff talking-white guy in this game. Besides that, inception noises and the same uninteresting art direction. Yup.

They should do some sort of contest to see who can flag the most spammers in a week. I think it'd be a blast!

Whats with the hate on the first game? It could have been better but I still enjoyed it. It was pretty fun just destroying shit in crazy ways and flying from building to building.

I wish them luck on this next game, but it looks like more of the same. They need to change something up.

Unless I'm mistaken, the first game looked like your only objective was to kill as many civilians and soldiers as you could while you tried to figure out what the hell was going on in New York.  The first game's hero looked more like a villan than a anti-hero, which is why I didn't play it.

This game already looks just as sadistic as the first game, with the exception that it's a revenge story. Right now, I'm not impressed with the way it looks.  It's probably not for me, then.

A lot of developers fix a lot of stuff between games. Besides, Prototype was mostly there, I don't see why they couldn't fix what was left, especially since we can assume they're using an engine they're familiar with, it's been in development for some time, and this one is still 2 years away.

None of that, while looking badass, did anything to alleviate my fears that what I hated about the first one is still in place: little variety in missions, almost nothing resembling a texture in the environment, and a completely crap targeting system. All that said though, I'd pay like, $30 to play it still a while after release if it's just a slightly upgraded version of the first one. It was fun enough for what it was.

Prototype was a game with a ton of ambition but too many obvious flaws to ignore.  Looking forward to this and hoping that they iron out all the problems from the first game.

This looks way too similar to Prototype 1. Same city, same models, and so far only 1 new character...doesn't look good for the sequel

I hated Assassin's Creed 1 with a passion, barely playing it for more than a couple of hours, yet I found AC2 to be fun as hell.

Prototype 1 was probably the most boring, least interesting game I have played games in the current generation and almost all of the previous (props to Orphen, I guess), probably longer since I'm so careful about what I choose to purchase/play. I'm willing to give the sequel a shot hoping that it pulls an AC2 on me, but from the looks of that trailer... I doubt it will happen.

I don't know why people keep saying, "I hope this game pulls an Assassin's Creed 2," when the first Assassin's Creed was better than the first; the first Prototype was awesome. Throw in a newer nicer engine, new game mechanics etc. and I can't wait. I imagine the same people who thought the first Prototype wasn't good are the same ones that thought it was hard haha.

The game is over 2 years off...I imagine they would have to use a fair number of placeholders from the first game to put together a trailer showing off as much gameplay as this one did. Don't be so quick to pull the trigger.

@RsistncE: No, it's a fair assessment wanting a leap from Prototype 1 to 2 like AC 1 to AC 2 because they have similar issues. The first AC had tech issues, lots of draw in and the textures would go wonky from time to time, meanwhile Prototype had ridiculous amounts of slow down because of so much going on and did not have to worry about textures because it barely had any. AC1 had a terribly low amount of things to do other than run the environment and stab people and Prototype had, uh, run the environment, throw some shit and eating people, and some pretty generic trial missions. Where AC 1 at least succeeded was in that of its story, where PT's is pretty banal. But, if it can fix all those other things, the lackluster looking environment, generic missions, and a terrible targeting system, it could be good on top of being fun, which did not necessarily go together at any given time. And PT was most definitely not hard, except when gameplay issues (namely that crap targeting) reared their head.

So they will go from New York to Jersey, put tons of tiny beer cans everywhere and give you twice as many limbs to attack with...

Seriously though, this doesn't look good at all, for a debut trailer, this was complete garbage. Sure the first one was fun but was far from a great game. Adding hype devices such as the inception horn and a giant ape monster that looked oddly familiar from Infamous, yea... This dropped from my top 10 most anticipated games to my least anticipated game. Hopefully they can change my mind before then.

The problem with wanting an AC2 jump from this is that Prototype wasn't even as good as Hulk: Ultimate Destruction which was really the first game in this series.

Before Fallout: New Vegas was released, I would have agreed entirely with this statement. And I certainly remember the same comments said of it when it was first announced, given how much jank Fallout 3 has. Sadly F:NV is now the Black Swan of 21st century game development. Proof that sequels on the same engine can be technically inferior.

@Brackynews: You're ignoring that it was a new developer working on an engine unfamiliar to them (an engine notorious for jank) and they had about 2 years, maybe.

AC2 had WAY more bugs than the first. I can't even count the number of retarded bugs I came across in that game. At one point Ezio was standing straight up on his horse, arms outstretched all jesus like, going full speed. All they did with AC2 was throw in some bland side missions. They literally fixed nothing which was why the first one was better: it was at least fresh. I personally was incredibly surprised at how dumb people had to be for Ubisoft to pull such a move on them: just by adding some useless shit to the game (and literally changing nothing about the gameplay) people somehow went from "AC1 sucks!" to "AC2 is awesome!". That's why Destructoid's review was bang on for the second one. PT1 had problems for sure, but it was fresh and I hadn't played a game like that in a long time. It was an ultra fun experience and if they just pull an "AC2" on the second one I'll probably feel the same way about it as I did about AC2. As for the targeting system I don't know how inept someone has to be to think it was hard to use: hold targeting, flick stick to change targets. Hell the game even slowed down time for you so you could change locks comfortably.

@Romination:  I'm really not trying to ignore that. Point was simply that two years of polishing a bad engine doesn't fix the engine. Gamebryo is a third party product that has had a lot of corporate troubles and public ill will in the last couple of years. I don't think we'll be seeing it used much more.
Besides, Obsidian isn't some wet-behind-the-ears team that chokes on complexity. They weren't working in a vacuum, they had Bethesda's years of experience at arm's length -- arguably the best people in the industry to ask for help working with Gamebryo. I don't believe anyone expected the quality of the tech to regress.

ON TOPIC, time will tell what Radical is able to do with what they have, and I certainly wish them well. The industry being what it is, there is no guarantee that the most experienced coders from Hulk and Prototype will be working on the sequel even if they do still work for Radical.
