The Walking Dead's Fourth Episode Is Just Around the Corner

Oh good, I hadn't had a good reason to be horribly depressed recently. This should do nicely.

Not watching any trailers for spoilers, but there has to be something better than coming soon. Where is the date? Is soon next week?

Last episode when Telltale said "soon", wasn't that within 10 days?

@kermoosh: I feel a lot more connection with the characters with the game then the Tv show or the comics I think they really do well getting the atmosphere right

you have a point there, it's definitely better than the show. and as much as i love the comics there are many emotional expressions and facial expressions that aren't present the the comics compared to this game

Yeah I came here hoping for a date. Was disappointed.

Lets be honest, telltales idea of "soon" is anytime within the next 3 months.

BTTF took forever too. I thought it was because of the PS3 hacking at the time, but now I know it's Tell Tale.

Also. I know this will be Patrick's GOTY. It's mine for sure. Anybody know if Ryan ever got around to epp. 2? I've been waiting to hear them talk about it on the Bombcast, but I blank out once in awhile when it's on, so I may have missed it.

Really hoping the "kill your zombie family" trope doesn't make an apperance in these last two episodes. Almost cringed when they said where the train was heading at the end of episode three.

And as much I don't want Clem to die from an emotional standpoint, from a narrative standpoint, I really hope she does. It would be so true to the tone of the series. No sacred cows.

I loved the crap out of 1 & 2 but I got too close of a look at the seams in Long Road Ahead. I kept trying to SPOILER ALERT save Carley but there's no way to change that nor is it possible to convince the group that you're not a murderer once Lilly tells everyone. Not only does she say this after you say she can get on back on the truck but there's no option to say that that's bullshit since Carley was the only one who knew the truth and honestly the word of Lilly didn't mean much after her breakdown. Once I reloaded I realized that all the "choice" I was offered was mostly just pretty window dressing on a game as linear as Black Ops II. I still love the writing and the atmosphere but I have to wonder if the crowd proclaiming GOTY would feel that way if they played it again.

I just got done with episode 2 last night, working on getting Episode 3. I must say this is, by far, the most impressive downloadable game this year and I'm really looking forward to getting through this story.

I don't like how that girl right hooked that man to the ground. I think it's sexist.

@vanfarley: I have played through the episodes a few times already and it is still one of the best games of the year. They definitely offer the illusion of choice more than anything substantive however, that doesn't take anything away from the emotional experience of playing through an episode for the first time. I can't remember any other game that held my attention and tugged at my emotions more than this. Regardless of the depth of choice this series still offers something unique and memorable in video games and I can't think of anything more deserving than that.

If you listened to the latest idle thumbs, one of the lead writers Sean Vanaman had a minor freak-out about it. He has more control over Episode 4 than Whitta does.

@Brian333: I too was deeply affected by the choices and consequences in episodes 1 & 2 but after I pulled the veil back I could never look at them the same way. It reminds me of playing through Heavy Rain and the tension I felt knowing that any fuck-up could permanently kill any one (or all) of the main characters. I thought, and still think, that this was a really bold choice for any designer to make because it means the story has to be much more flexible to remain cohesive while still offering real choices and consequences. Now Walking does a lot of things better than that game did (Voice Acting, Writing, Atmosphere, did I mention Voice Acting?) but I still can't help but despair at the idea that my choices don't really matter all that much because when it comes down to it the developers are much more focused on delivering an emotional narrative rather than a choice-driven adventure with a myriad of possibilities. It's a difference in approach and one that I'm sure I should fault them for but I was sold on this game because I thought it was innovating on the choose-your-own-adventure formula that Mass Effect popularized. Instead its innovations stem more from its shocking narrative and fleshed-out characters, a noble compromise but one that significantly decreases it's importance to me
