The Weather of F1 2010

That's a bit of rain, but I wouldn't say it's heavy.

" putting a heavy emphasis on simulating real life weather effects."

Not trying to sound too old here but I'm pretty sure real life weather effects have been a staple of sim racers for over a decade already.

@mark2000: it's hard for me to comment on that since my comp is pretty old,  so I haven't been able to play much newer sims,  but are the current generation of sims able to simulate puddles and dry lines as the weather change...? maybe i-racing...?

PGR4 did more than that over a year ago now, but not in F1 cars though.

Hell yes! How many years since the last PC F1 game? Codemasters know their shit, improving with each game (yes, they went arcade for the masses, but they know sim) I can't wait to see this on a PC! :)

What the general race fan wants in a racer is customization of their cars, etc...For the die hards, like myself...this is up our alley...Its good to see the F1 licence in the right hands.

@HaYHaYHaY:  I'm not sure about puddles but even the old F1 Challenge game had a mod for dry lines. Sure it's a mod but the point is that it was already possible to do that back then.

Maybe I'm just barking up the wrong tree though. Maybe this game is simply up there with Gran Turismo and Forza as pseudo-sim games meant to be played by the mainstream crowd. For what its worth, I hope it becomes successful with whatever the hell it's trying to live up to.

Not really. Weather in games is pretty binary, meaning if the track is wet, then the car will lose an element of control exactly the same everywhere. If the programmers add in variation, then the surface will affect the car in the same way every time you play the track in that location. What's different here, is that it might start raining half-way through a  race and be a heavy downpour for only 15 minutes of simulated time. Over the course of that time, the track will get more wet, puddles will accumulate, and the track will dynamically change. After a rain shower, the track will start to dry, which changes how you tune suspesion and tires at your pits, and how the car will handle dynamically, depending on the degree of wetness of the track. It sounds much more dynamic than the binary wet/dry scenario racing sims have been using for a decade.

This is a huge aspect of F1 racing, glad they are taking it seriously. Off to watch Monaco Grand Prix, the greatest setting in professional motor sports. I really hope this outsells the Nascar game. Which it will, btw!

yeah... exactly what I was hoping for... the step up to more realistic weather effects, dry lines, puddles, aquaplaning (if rainy enough), dynamic weather changes, etc...  That would add a lot of replay value to the game, might even make me upgrade my PC just for it =D

Hey developers. You know there's more weather out there in the big bad real world than just rain right?

@Fbomb: Like I said, it's already been done. Aside from puddles and aquaplaning, every thing else about weather effects (or at least every thing you've just mentioned) have already been in existence years before this game was even in development either through actual developer-made game design or by way of community mods and enhancements.  Anyone who has been a sim racing enthusiast for over the last ten years should know this already.
