Overview
Who's Lila? is an indie, psychological-horror, contemporary-fantasy point-and-click adventure game developed by Garage Heathen and published digitally by IndieArk for the PC on February 23, 2022.
Featuring an unsettling "dither-punk" aesthetic (making heavy use of real-time binary image dithering) and inspired by the works of David Lynch, Who's Lila puts players in control of William Clarke, a teenage student who has difficulty showing emotions. As he goes through his day, he learns that he's under suspicion for the disappearance of his classmate Tanya Kennedy, as he was believed to have seen her last. What follows is a surreal series of plot twists that asks the most important question: Who's Lila?
The game is presented in a split-screen interface, with the left one showing the main scene and the right one showing either William's face or the face of whoever is talking to him. Instead of dialogue options, players have a limited amount of time to directly manipulate William's face to show a different emotion in his dialogue, which can alter how the plot progresses.
There are several branching story paths with over 15 endings, and the game often has players restarting from the beginning with new leads to follow. It also includes some metafictional elements, including puzzles making use of real-world social media pages and a bonus "DAEMON" application for finding hidden secrets.
