I'm planning on getting a 360 in a few weeks and having been out of games for a while (besides following them on this site) i don't know what games i should get.  If I were to get 3 games with my 360 what would you recommend?

First of all what type's of games do you like?  Just for fun hear are a few top pics off the top of my head.

Gears of War (cheap now)
CAll of Duty (if you like 1st person army games)
Project Gotham Racing 3 or 4 (both cheap now)
Street Fighter 4 ($40 at gamestop)
Grand Theft Auto 4 (depending on how long its been 4 u and you missed the PS2 games this one will blow your mind...  Its huge)

Kameo, Alone in the Dark and Far cry 2

Halo 3?

Gears of War 1 & 2, Bioshock, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Uno, Geometry Wars 2.

If you haven't gamed in a while, play some games co-op over live (Like Gears or Uno).  Totally new experience compared to the old days.

Mass Effect, Fable 2, Forza, Gears, Halo.

Halo 3, Fable 2, and Burnout Paradise.  Get some variety in the genres.

I feel like streetfighter 4 sounds awesome. But at the same time i know i would be terrible at it to start and am wondering how generous the learning curve is and if it's still as fun to play without a gamestickpadthing.

if your budget is for 3 new games @ $60/ea you can get more cuz some are cheap now
