i seem to be the minority here...

i'm going to try and bring up every good and every bad thing about this game. i've never seen a game get so ram-sacked without it really deserving it. yes i did buy this but that honestly is not going to factor into this. i will not be biased. i like aliens and i like predators. i'm not a hardcore fan and the 2 don't always go good together, (the movies sucked balls, well at least the first one did) but they're cool. ok.

Graphics- this is one of the better looking games that i've seen this year. i'd rather look at this than Bioshock 2, without a doubt. there is a bit of a generic-ness to the menus, but everything has a nice blur to it and is pretty detailed.

Gameplay- jumping from tree branch to tree branch as an alien or predator is tons of fun and works just fine. it's fun starting out at one end of the map- while a dude is shooting at you, but then somehow ending up behind him without him even knowing what happened- then biting his head off. the only negatives i can think of - no aiming down the sights and no crouching. the melee aspect is fine. i don't always go for the prompted "block and combo", but when i do it usually works. i just like bashing them in the head and then pumping a full clip into them. heh heh.

CONTROLS- this is what i've seen the most complaints for. all i can say is there is a learning curve. you can do a lot of cool things in this game and pulling those cool things off is not a problem once you learn the, for the lack of a less serious word, "science" of every mechanic. i could see how you would think this game blows if you just played it for 5 minutes, but just give it time.

matchmaking- it does take a while to find a game. i recommend playing friendly games until they come up with a fix for the matchmaking, assuming they will. in friendly games you don't go back to the main menu when you finish a match so you can just play game after game. or you can just browse for a game yourself.

multiplayer- aside from the matchmaking, the multiplayer is really awesome. a lot of the modes seemed to be borrowed from halo. "predator hunt" is a lot like "juggernaut". it's where there's a predator and a bunch of marines and who ever kills the predator gets to be the predator. another halo-esc mode is "infestation", much like the halo mode "infection" you try and kill the aliens before you become an alien. those 2 modes are kind of similar but they're both fun. there's other call of duty like modes such as "domination". sneaking up behind people and executing them is a lot more fun when it's a real person on the other end.

campaign- a bit of a cheap/cheesy horror movie/game vibe to it. but there's some good "first person experiences" if you know what i mean by that- i.e being dragged down the hall by an alien, then capping him in the ass. i've completed a good chunk of the marine and predator campaign and haven't yet touched the aliens but i've had some good- creepy fun with it and can definitely say its not the worst i've seen. almost forgot, the checkpoints are few and far between and that can get pretty annoying.

enemy AI- i have to point the AI out. especially in the aliens, the way they scurry about seems very life-like and is creepy as hell. you never know where they're gonna pop out.

that's all that's ringing a bell for now. if anything, ripping peoples spines out is awesome.

I don't think "bias" means what you think it means.

Reviewers all have their biases. That's why reviews are also opinions. They can't be totally devoid of biases since they are very subjective. You can never have an objective-based review since if it is objective-based it just defeats the purpose of having multiple reviews each explaining varying experiences and opinions.

    @ Radalan
Your direct quote: "These modes are from Halo"
Does not exist in his review. The word “these” does not, the words “modes are from” do not. But you seem to know where those modes may have been created before. Are they in previous AvP games? Do share, please.

I think patrick5152003 was trying to say that despite owning the game and making the statement “i like aliens and i like predators.” He was going to be objective. Impossible? Probably. Maybe you should have sent him a link to your preferred definition of bias.

    @all negative Nellys

If you want to nit pick, we can do it forever and I assure you that at the end of that forever and during that forever: I will feel that I won, that I defeated your arguments or we can stop now and I’ll feel the same.

    @ patrick5152003

Good write-up, nice length, and expressed some thoughts I share. Keep it going!

I like playing multiplayer because my experience wasn't spoiled by cheating (if there was cheating I didn’t even notice it) and the players that actually talk weren’t pissed off or trash talking (which is a common habit of cheaters or those cheated).

I actually dont have the game but I thought that the demo was pretty fun. I think that your review brings a new perspective to the game then the other reviews did and I would like to thank you for that.

@DrRandle: Dude, you need to get a dictionary and look up biased, because you sure as hell don't know what it means!

@ patrick5152003: I am with you on this, and your right, we seem to be the minority! Thanks for posting an un-biased review, I liked how you broke things down. The thing that really gets me when I have read reviews on multiple game review sights, is that the controls suck for the Alien and the Predator; there is a learning curve here like you had mentioned and there is also what is called an options menu (seems that people do not bother with this much anymore)

Everyone plays differently, so the sensitivity settings are not going to work for everyone the same way; perfect example is that when I used to play Halo 3, I had to lower the look sensitivity to what worked best for me. The same thing here, I lowered the look sensitivity for both the Alien and Predator, and found that they were much easier to control. There is an option for auto-transition for the Alien, which I found works best for me turned off and I just hold the RT button when I want to transition to another surface. Someone else might play better with that feature on!? But that is what it is there for, and that is why they are called options!

I find that many critic reviews are full of bias, for whatever their reasons may be. The fact that adjusting the sensitivity levels to your liking is not mentioned in any of the reviews I have read, leads me to believe that the critic reviews are untrustworthy. If they were struggling with the controls, then why didn't they adjust them??? Aliens vs Predator and Dante's Inferno were given unjust scores due to the mediocre gaming abilities of the review team on this site and others as well. My suggestion to those who haven't played this yet is, do not automatically believe the critics reviews; rent the game and see for yourself . The team here on Giant Bomb is the same team that slammed Star Wars:Bounty Hunter, while they were all still working at Gamespot, and there was nothing wrong with that game.

    I'm pretty sure it's Ransacked not "Ram-Sacked".
